IP rated key fob

Since our phones are IP rated why not make key fobs that are water resistant should be easy to just put a gasket in the housing?

Why would BMW want to deal with warranty claims on water submerged keys?

The question isn't "why not?" but "why?"

I believe it has an o-ring type gasket inside protecting the circuit board. Does it work ( if enough water is splashed on it)? No...

BMW sells cars, not key fobs. And when it comes to a key fob replacement, reportedly, it costs a fortune already. In my experience BMW OEM accessories are often of poor/crappy quality compared to counterparts.
