Speedometer number inflated?
Anyone else noted the speedometer shows higher speed than the actual speed? I turned on gps speed (Waze) today and there is a discrepancy as high as 3 mph (e.g., screen shows 75mph, where gps shows 72mph). My wheel and tire is not modded though. I assume Waze is pretty accurate as it showed exact same number in my other vehicle.

Known “feature” of BMWs. They all do it, for many many years. Does not affect mileage tracking it’s just aesthetic. Used to be able to code out with BimmerCode but not since newer idrive has additional encryption.

Every car manufacturer does it to some extent, it is by law it cant be lower than actual speed so most manufacturers raise it by maybe 5% ish. BMW maybe happens to just a little more than 5%

Other two posts pretty much covered it. When I checked mine it read 4 mph faster than I was actually going. No big deal i just drive 4 mph faster to make up for it

any car i've driven with a digital speedo seems to be off by 3-5kph, the difference is more at higher speeds.

Mine overreads by a touch more than 5%. So you take the first number, halve it and add it to the second one to get the actual speed. Oh, and round down, not up.
My previous BMW and various MINIs were mostly 5%, but one MINI was just 2%, so it's worth measuring against an app - even just Google Maps works OK. Note that you can adjust when the speed limit indicator in HUD starts flashing to warn you're over the limit. It's an option in the standard screens (on OS8 certainly, and I'm pretty sure I saw it on an OS7 220i too). On Euro spec, there are two adjustments, one up to 60km/h (37mph) and one over that. Unfortunately, the adjustment is in km/h (or mph in US I guess), not percentage. So I have mine set to 3km/h up to 60 and 5km/h over that. And, statement of the obvious: non-standard tyre or wheel sizes will throw out the speedo.
