Proper car settings for track/autocross
Hoping to find out the "proper" setup for auto crossing my M240i xDrive (posting here since there's no track section in the G42 categories).
I know I can disable traction control pretty easily. Should I also go in and disable all the collision/emergency braking stuff? Should I run the car in Sport+ and manually shift using the paddles? I'm used to less fancy manual trans cars so hoping to just get the basic setup down. Thanks! |

I am not familiar with the M240, but I put my car into "track" mode, which disables pretty much every safety feature. Then I also turn off DSC. I select 4WD Sport. If I happen to do skidpad exercises, then I also select 2WD with traction set to between 4 to 6, depending on how slippery the surface is based on the amount of water they spray onto the skidpad.

When I autocrossed my G42 I went sport+ with a quick press on the traction button to allow limited tire slip. Never tried full traction control disabled.
I tried a few runs manually shifting, but I found the delay in shifting/need to shift early was slower for me then just allowing the ZF8 to do it's thing. |

I autocross my 228xi and obviously your 240i has way more power.
For me, I disabled everything and even held down the DSC button to disable that completely. Without doing that sometime the power still gets cut occasionally. But then again, my 228xi doesn't have a mechanical diff and only has a e-diff, aka brakes. The ZF8 was good for me on it. It was certainly a tad slow so for courses that is faster, I do often get caught between 2nd and 3rd, but there was only one time I got spun around due to the delay of the shift. I just got my G87 yesterday and noticed the ZF8 in it is way quicker than the one I had in the 228xi so for sure the ZF8 has improved overtime so your 240i probably behave would be closer to the G87 than the 228xi. I thought often time autocross requires all the safety feature off, such as lane departure warning and collision avoidance and stuff. Either way, turn them all off would be the good thing to do. |

I autocrossed my M240 for the past 2 seasons. Best setup is Sport+ and DSC off. For shifts I prefer manual. I tried letting the ZF automatically change gears but felt it was too distracting. Not shifting when I was expecting it to or downshifting when I wasn’t expecting it. It may be a preference stuff though.

I track my M240 4+ times a year. I use sport individual set all controls to max. I have camber plates, and Endless ME20 brake pads. I'm also running Yokos Advan 09. I just bought a RaceChip but not too sure about it. Need to play with it more. Seems it gives a boost them the ECU compensates the boost then derates power. I start out with 32 psi tire pressures then once my session is over adjust from that. I try to keep about 39 psi hot. I let the trans. do its work. Seems faster and I can concentrate on driving. All nannies are off. You and your brakes will be much happier that way. You will also gain more skill w/o the nannies.
