OEM vs Aftermarket Valved Muffler

Hey all - new here. Looking for an OEM+ sound on the G87 M2 and I'm sold on a midpipe (either AA single or Valvetronic), but curious what I'm looking at volume wise if I go with a full valved catback instead.

Specifically concerned with cold start volume and highway drone. Are aftermarket valved mufflers with valves closed significantly louder than stock muffler with valves closed?

Thanks!

It's tough to answer your question as it depends on which axle back you are getting and which midpipe you are pairing it to.

you do get most of the sound increase from the midpipe so it might be a good idea to start with that and decide later on the axle back.

Thanks Mike. Most interested in the AA single, so I'll likely just stick with stock mufflers. I didn't realize there was a resonated version too, but I imagine that might be too quiet for me.

if the exhaust and downpipes are stock. the resonated single is too quiet in my opinion. i recommend you get the non-resonated single midpipe instead

AA single (non-res) with the stock valved muffler is good enough IMO. Car is quiet as a mouse in comfort mode with no drone. Still rips in sport+.

A lot of customers start with the single midpipe and SST valve controller.
some of them don't feel the need for more sound, others upgrades the axle back and/or downpipes.

Thats why i always recommend starting with the midpipe and valve controller and deciding later on the next steps.

Which aftermarket axlebacks keep the OEM valve control function and are louder? I don't wanna walk around with a valve remote to be honest, lol.

I know you are looking at the single but I just got the equal length AA midpipe and was really surprised how much volume the midpipe alone added. So much so that any more could get me in trouble with the neighborhood noise ordinance. So def start there then reasses if you need more. It is quiet in comfort but cold starts are a little rough.

This is good info, thank you. Hoping the single is more tame and cold starts in comfort are reasonable!

Cold start with the AA EL and oem axleback is still pretty quiet unless you pop the valves open immediately (or have them tied open).

I didn't realize the AA axleback maintains oem valve control. Very good to know.

For anyone thinking about this mod: DO IT!

It is absolutely not loud or obnoxious and sounds so so much better. Truly is how it should have came spec'd from the factory.

Happy customer - thanks Mike!
