Any "extended" plans worth considering at purchase time?
Waiting for my M60i (week 18) and started researching a bit on warranty/service. It's my 1st bimmer and I plan to keep it for years. Finance people will almost certainly try to sell a bunch of (overpriced) extended service/warranty plans when I pick up the car. I know new BMWs come with 3yr maintenance/4yr warranty, so I'm mainly considering extended warranty beyond 4 yrs. Want to get some thoughts from this forum - Is there any plan that *might* worth considering if the price is reasonable, or should I always decline all extra stuff at the purchase time & just shop elsewhere later before 4yr mark?
Many thanks! |

Hey partner, there are tons of good posts on this topic on this forums. Many members here have shared their experiences with various options and some have even posted name/emails of who are selling reasonable discounted warranties. Recommend a quick look/search around and you will be more than satisfied with what you find.

No need to buy the maintenance plan now especially for something after year 3. Come back after your 3 years and then decide. There are those who sell those extended warranties at a discount, just search the forum.

X5 / Extended Warranty
Finally took possession a couple weeks back....and after allllllll the reading about ESC's and just saying NO....I caved! I paid like 3K for an extra year (4yr/48mos) plus 700 for gap (which I could have gotten through Progressive).
Anyway....having regrets. Do I have any resource or options? Penalties if I cancel? Would the dealership take a hit? Should I just keep it???? Thanks! |

Most contracts you can cancel within 30 days for a full refund. Some states are less. Either way I would cancel asap. What service do you antipate needing for an extra $3k anyways in year 3-4 that is worth paying all that extra interest over the course of the loan (assuming you have a loan)? |

ESC's, now called VSC (Vehicle Service Contact), is BMW's version of the extended warranty and not a maintenance contract.

That would make sense, I figured he got the months wrong. Perhaps he meant Ultimate Care+ rather than an ESC.

I love the idea of paying upfront and not having to worry about anything for years, but this just doesn’t seem to justify the cost…however, if you decide to get it, seems like something to sit back and enjoy and try to maximize the value on before it expires.

Next question, how do I go about cancelling? I've tried to read up on it, and most say I have to go back to the dealership to cancel. True? |

Yes, if that's what the contract says, then yes. You paid them, so they have to be the ones refunding you at this point. That's the easy part, really, then comes the wait which could easily take 4-6 weeks or not.
