Why are g83 xdrive so cheap?
I am seeing 2022/2023 g83 xDrive with close to 20k miles list for 69k. Similar listing for g80 or g82 goes for north of 75k.
Does being a convertible and having more moving parts tank the valuation of the car? Last edited by dkim3; 05-10-2024 at 11:13 AM.. |

Convertibles are just not as desirable in an enthusiasts car.

If you’re looking for a G83, either buy it pre-owned (or CPO if you can find it) or lease. They depreciate the most of all the G8X cars (same as E9X and F8X too).

Mine is a lease and I have no intention of owning, but in my humble opinion, the convertible is by far the best looking variant- plus you cannot beat the engine sound with the top down!

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I currently have a G80 manual and am looking for xDrive G8x. My reason is because of health issues as I am having knee issues. |

common for any M convertible.
they depreciate fast because its not enthusiast spec. they are ALOT heavier than the coupe/sedan and lack the chassis stiffness. Boxster GTS has much better dynamics. LC500 has more luxury and v8 sound.

Just don’t take the LC500 to a track. It’ll go into limp mode just thinking about it… lol

Owning any car in 2024 is going to be better than leasing, even one that depreciates. I bought mine and put down as much as I reasonably could to minimize my interest. 5.29+% (lease rates are even higher) is still a large amount of money compared to depreciation so I'd rather nip that out than sit on a lease for 3 years and have a residual that's going to consider that depreciation anyway and make me pay more interest over those 3 years.
The residual vs value in 3 years is going to be roughly similar anyway, so I'm just saving on interest. |

If you want a G83 wait until fall and focus your search in the snow-belt. Now is not a good time to buy a convertible before summer.
I was offered more than 12% off a new G83 in September. I suspect it’s similar in the used car market. They just don’t hold their value as much as the G80/G82. They tank in Fall. |
