Not sure I follow, are you asking if the battery will get recoded? If so, the answer is no. Only time a battery gets registered/coded is after it's been replaced otherwise there's the potential to overcharge it and degrade its life or in the worst case it may explode.

Back on topic: It's good to know that BMW was a little conservative with their initial weight estimation figures previously quoted for the G87 M2 in various specs. Just like their estimated HP & TQ figures, BMW is being a touch on the cautious side & under rating things. But in this case, they're over padding things a bit. But that's maybe a good thing as we're pleasantly surprised by the numbers trickling in.

I made a spreadsheet to see how easy/difficult it is to reduce weight in this car. I believe that you can get a manual under 3600lbs (at a 1/4th tank) without too much effort or expense assuming the car is spec'd appropriately.

I have yet to see any wheel weight savings come close to the paper expectations, my own experience included. It's a few pounds per corner.

These are all paper claims for going on 18mo. No one has shown a car under 3650 (with fuel, even Jackie Ding) to my knowledge, despite significant investment.

I know zero21 mentioned a while back his weight savings on the 827M’s weren’t as much as claimed by BMW.

I weighed my 827M’s out of the box, then weighed my 930M’s on the same Renpho scale (I weighed each wheel 3-4 times at different angles on the scale to make sure I was getting a consistent weight each time). Both the 827M’s and 930M’s weighed exactly what BMW said they would (for the 827M’s it was 23.8 lbs/front and 24.2 lbs/rear). It was exactly a 21 lb savings overall, just as expected.

I share your concerns. I intend to do wheels and midpipe (and I added the carbon pack). Will put these paper claims to the test once my car is delivered… although, I’m doing these mods to make the car more fun, not for weight savings

If one is purely trying to come up with the lightest G87 and money is not an object, the following would be some effective "mods": rear seat delete, cf fenders and trunk from Alpha, cf hood from Alpha/Vorsteiner, cf strut brace, aftermarket rotors (Girodisc for one), cf driveshaft (Driveshaft Shop will custom make it)....you get my drift.

That’s probably $30k or more after install though. I would feel bad for not buying Porsche at that point.

+1- i think the case for the M2 falls apart north of 85-90k invested. IMHO.

If you are comparing to a 718, that would be a hard pass. I was also just making a point that there are many ways to shed the weight if that is your goal.

Doing something right isn't cheap...

i agree on the 718 point, and rob, you have a sweet ride. for me, personally, and how i use this car thats kind of my line in the sand. PC, ceramic, cooling protection, forged wheels (albeit not aftermarket), roof rails and ski rack, winter tires on OEM rims, and soon tints lands me ~75-76k after taxes. ill do some odds and ends (midpipe, spacers, aftermarket spoiler) and likely end up in the ~80-82k range depending on specific part choice and what not.

south of 100k it really is hard to find a better option (or at least it turns into a personal preference thing). im not a 911 guy per se but to me the math stops mathing around 85-90k. that said, i really do respect folks taking the platform to its logical conclusion (like your build) and supporting and building a robust aftermarket for this car.
