Unhappy 2022 230i - spilled milkshake :(

Hi friends,

I am back here at the best bmw community in the world.

The gentlemen at mcd's filled up my milkshake too high, and it spilled onto the center console all over the iDrive controller - so where the home, media, etc. buttons and the turn dial are.

All the buttons are still working fine, but the stickiness of the milkshake has made the buttons stuck.

When I press, they respond but they don't click down all the way and you can tell it's become a bit sticky

I tried using rubbing alcohol or lysol wipes to try and break down the milkshake residue but the buttons are still sticky. Any idea on how to resolve this annoying issue?

Many thanks friends.

Take the center console out and clean it thoroughly

let this be a lesson for you lol
I only have water or diet soda (which won't be sticky even if spilled a little) in my car for this reason

What Coconut said.

My limited experience -- when I spilled some soft drink on a ThinkPad keyboard -- was removing the keyboard and rinsing the keyboard with hot tap water then rinsing with distilled water and letting the keyboard dry for 24 hours. After the keyboard worked just fine. The new keyboard I bought online for just in case was never needed.

I don’t drink anything other than water in my car. The guilty pleasure is drinking tea. If someone tries to drink milkshake in my car they’d be on the pavement in no time lol.

CRC QD Contact Cleaner is going to be best for cleaning the console controls. It won't harm plastics. You can buy it at Lowes or on Amazon.

Certainly worth a try to see if it really cuts/dissolves the milkshake residue.
