I will be getting one soon for drag racing so intend to take some weight out.

ig is vrsix_aj if you Wana see how I took out 300lbs on a x3m lol.
My only concern with replacing the battery for something lighter would be corner balancing - since BMW strategically places the battery in the rear for mass distribution. It might be why the M3/M4 have lighter batteries, and the M2 doesn’t.

it's cost saving...same reason m2 doors and trunk are steel but m3 and 4 are aluminum... there alot of deliberate weight left on a m2 due to cost...li battery is 1500+... regular is 200...m2 base price would go up instantly if they did m3/4 weight savings. there's a 13k msrp difference but the cars are essentially the same. that 13k is in large portion on using heavier cheaper materials.

M division is great but bmw corporate rather save money then have a godly track car because only 1% of us care that the car is too heavy

It think it’s a compromise most of us are willing to accept at this price point. I’d love an M3/M4 - but do I want to spend $80,000-90,000 when relative performance is attainable for 30% less? I think it also gives us the opportunity to tinker and customize with the aftermarket. I’m already looking at forged apex wheels that will shed 45lbs of rotating mass - significantly more than any forged wheelset BMW offers. I have zero doubt in my mind that I can get my car under 3700 pounds with only a few mods.

Absolutely love the energy and i agree with you about everything...BTW there is a m3 rwd that clocked in 3550 with no interior...carbon hood/fenders on slicks and skinny.

Absolutely. People so quickly forget that we are getting a coveted drivetrain and motor for only $63K. I'm OK with BMW cutting corners on the stuff that's easy to swap out, like tires and batteries.

Better that they do that, than by using a less powerful motor (example: OG F87 w/ the N55). We get a real M engine in the base model this time!

Which Antigravity model is the one to be used? H7-60-RS? And do we code it as Li-ion on leave it alone as AGM?

Congrats.

But did you lose it up high or down low? C.G. is important, you know.

Someone posted this on the G87 Facebook page. This is the full carbon package, manual transmission and car is completely filled up with gas. 3706 lbs stock. So really, the weight gain is literally negligible if you spec the car correctly.
This is why the car outperforms the F series cars. Newer suspension tech, wider footprint, tons more power.

With forged wheels sub 3700 seems pretty attainable.

Check out TeamPHD's ytube videos, they are running an M2 on Gridlife. Even stock it's a very capable car: it is eager to turn in, is easy to rotate, is very precise, has lots of power, and lots of grip.

Once they start basic weight reduction (wheels, battery), and put on camber plates, it gets better of course.

Yes, good point. G80,G82 used OEM Li battery. I don't think Li risk is a big concern.

Also I'd like to know how weight is the G80 or G82 Li battery. Anyone who have the data to share?
