I met Ron (BigRon033) today and he was kind enough to do a cold start and some revs with his M Performance exhaust. Guys, just the axleback alone sounds pretty damn good! If you pair it with a DP, it's gonna be beastly!

From everything I've heard on youtube, the BMW Performance slip-on exhaust for G42 M240i sounds decent. No Akrapovic or Fi, but less than 1/3 the price and BMW part. I still want to hear what the Dinan will sound like if they ever finish their axle-back. Not a fan of Milltek sound or Remus.

Question is though - is it just sound? Or is there some oomphh as well?

Chances of you feeling any oomph from an exhaust upgrade are either slim or mostly in your mind because of the more aggressive sound. Even on BMW's own description, they only talk about the sound:

"The M Performance Exhaust System amplifies the iconic inline 6-cylinder twin turbo sound. This product features a high-quality stainless steel sports muffler and active flap, impressing with an extremely sporty and rich sound."

You think you'd need to have a BMW dealer fit the exhaust to have the factory warranty maintained?

I would think that'd be a requirement since they can't vouch for another private shop messing up the installation in some way (and they want your $$$). :P
