How do you drive?

My new M240i RWD is the first sports car I have ever owned. Until now, I almost always drove in a sporty way, not caring about fuel consumption at all. Even if I went shopping or whatever, I love to drive like that.

However, with this car I realize that I can't always drive like this, because I run out of fuel in 2 days. Of course I'm willing to spend more on gas than before, but only up to a point. I am now trying to be careful and only drive in sport plus mode once or twice a week. But it sucks to have to restrain myself the rest of the days.....

I was wondering how you guys manage all this. What is your average fuel economy? Sometimes I think that even though the M240i is amazing, I would be better off with a less powerful car but one that would allow me to always drive it at the limit, like before. I don't know. Maybe Im saying nonsense xd Im sorry

Thank you for your answers guys.

You are over thinking it. Enjoy the car! I drive purely in sport individual (transmission in sport & the rest in sport plus). I average 17.6 around town.. If I'm hitting all the red lights, that drops to around 15MPG.

Gas is $5 + out here but i only put about 700 to 800 miles a month on the car.

Just drive it how you want. Don’t worry about gas prices. Enjoy it now, some day you might be forced to get an EV

Depends on how / where you drive . On the highway in comfort at 80 mph I get about 30 mpg. In town about 21 mpg and in sport + on curvy roads about 18.

On my work commutes which are 45 miles each way, 98% highway, i use eco pro and get around 30-32 mpg. All other driving is usually sport plus in manual shift mode.

Sport Individual. Steering and dampening set to comfort. Sport + everything else. My MPG would not be approved of by Greta Thunberg.

Whenever I get asked this, I always reply with a BMW it is not about MPG but SPG …..SMILES per gallon !! Enjoy the ride.

I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. So, during the day it's mostly comfort mode. But on the weekends when there are a lot fewer cars on the road, I get up early and I do some backroad, "very spirited" driving and really push the car. And that is always in sport-plus mode. Even in comfort mode, the BMW M240i x-drive is faster, more powerful and quicker than I can utilize during the day in my area.

I rarely drive on a highway. I'm getting a touch over 19 MPG.

Every time I really push the M240i x-drive, it's like falling in love all over again. Love the car.

You must drive a lot. I drive eco pro individual most of the time on the highway around 100 miles per week. Switch to sport individual when it opens up, and sport plus if I want to take a corner fast. Usually only in comfort mode on surface streets since it's too easy to speed and just end up hitting red lights immediately. Only fill up on gas every 2-3 weeks.

Yep. Its absurd but I think the car is too good xd. 100km with this car feels like 10km. I did 1500km in 2 weeks and I have the feeling I drove way less I would desire.

I typically drive my car with the flow of traffic, which is often less quickly than I'd like to. I do notice I tend to accelerate more quickly than everyone else when I have the chance, but I'm not flooring it all the time. I'm willing to push the car to its limits when the roads are totally open, but I tame my driving most of the time because I don't like paying tickets.

I can say that when driving this car flat out, it's much more than you need compared to legal limits. You only get 2 or 3 seconds of fun before you're breaking the law. Speeds you can hold on the on-ramps to highways is silly, losing control at those speeds could be fatal. On the flip side, when you drive it lightly, it turns a pretty impressive fuel economy figure. I think my average over 10,000kms is about 22 MPG (11L/100km). I've never done better than 15MPG or 15L/100KMs in any prior turbocharged or V8 vehicles for day to day driving, an this is my quickest car in the 1/4 mile so far. So all the performance, and pretty good fuel economy.
