Apple Carplay Navigation lacks Turn by Turn?

Hi, my wife has an iPhone, and we can't get any Turn by Turn guidance to come up on the Instrument Panel or HUD.

My Android Auto seems to give directions just fine.

Any idea why and what to do?

It's either a setting in the phone or when the maps is up on the screen there's a little "s" squiggly-looking symbol in the top right. Hit that and it should provide turn-by-turn. It does in my HUD, and my son would tell you I'm technology-challenged, so not much more I can offer, other than it does work.

Noticed the issue today. Using Apple Maps, no arrows or lanes on the HUD. Pretty sure that used to work.

Alright so, didn't change anything, and had turn by turn on the HUD just now. Could've been a Car Play glitch I suppose.

It might have restarted itself when the car went to sleep last. Who knows.

What version of iOS are you on now? 17.5.1 here.

For me I had to switch the main screen with the button on the right to show the whole route on the main screen and then it shows turn-by-turn directions on the instrument cluster and information about next turn on the headup as well.

I tried to get google maps working via carplay but did not find a way

Alright, so I think it has to do with launching another map software like Waze.

If Waze has a destination, it will interfere with (eg "block") Apple Map's HUD display. I had situations where the phone needed to be restarted.
