How to replace mirror housing?

A golf clipped my mirror and tried to speed off this weekend. I think this part is a cheap £30 plastic housing that can be clipped off. Anyone know how to do it?!

Looks to me like it's not the cap, but the lower part of the mirror assembly that attaches to the door. I haven't see an exploded view of the mirror, but it's not going to be as easy or cheap as that video shows.

Yeah definitely the lower part but I was thinking that removing the cap might help with access to whatever clips/fasteners hold the lower half in place.

Yeah turns out you have to remove the mirror cap anyway. £34 part and £60 in labour. Not the end of the world.

Ok so you were right it’s not as easy or cheap as you’d think. On this model you have to remove the interior door cars and drill through to the mirror in order to remove the mirror motor from the lower frame. What a pain in the ass and going to cost a fortune

It gets worse. BMW tell me this part cannot be replaced as the hinge pin cannot be removed from the mirror. Therefor an entire new mirror is required costing £500 for the part alone.

Makes you wonder why they even list the part for £34?

Ask for a discount and be glad you don’t need the glass - it’s another £500

I bought mirror glass a few weeks ago, £125 locally

The expensive ones have the light up blind spot warning for the 4 series I think

Try the right hand one with the auto dimming.
