Canadian Rye makes for a great “fortified” lemonade.

Lamborghini first brought it out. I don't think they were trying to simply use scrap pieces.

Lamborghini is still a business……a company in the business of making money and maximizing profits (..wherever they can). Just because they offered a product doesn’t mean anything.

That's laughable. Sure, they decided to introduce something on a car like that, solely because it is a little cheaper.

Come on man. Not a chance.

You’re missing the point. I see it no differently than charging a premium for Alcantara when it’s a lesser quality material/offering than leather. This “forged” carbon is the new hot offering. Whether or not it’s actually stronger has been debated and those “in the know” state that it isn’t. Of course a business won’t miss an opportunity to upsell and make some money, especially in a market where people often have more money than sense. As far as I know, no business - or the vast majority of businesses - that utilizes carbon fiber in droves (…e.g…a professional race team, for example), has employed forged carbon on their cars, bikes, skis, etc., so one can deduce there’s no strength benefit from forged and it’s more of a gimmick; a stylish gimmick if forged is your thing. If that very basic business concept and approach is incomprehensible to you, then ok.

Do you think they use VW engines because it’s the best the world can offer, or because they can save money doing so?

Maybe you just didn’t think it through before you posted, but your post was a poster child to “I have a bridge to sell you”.
Yes, I'm aware. However..... while you so gingerly skip around the point of Lambo's.... one of their biggest selling points is their visual appeal.
I highly doubt they would just "throw on some cheap version of CB", only to save a few bucks. Someone probably seen it, thought it looked cool, and introduced it.

I very much, highly doubt, that the decision was based on economics.

At the end of the day though, neither you nor I know the answer. We are, of course, just speculating.

As sedan mentioned, alcantara is the same thing… looks cool, saves scraps of material, lets call it “premium” and sell it.

You’re saying they didn’t start selling it just BECAUSE it was cheap, and we all agree they wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity for higher margins and greater product differentiation.

I just don’t think they did it BECAUSE it’s better quality. That may be the point of contention here, but ultimately like you said, it doesn’t matter

Cheers
Just came across this reel, check out the hood.

I'd like to see it in the light, but.... while I would still prefer the traditional CF, this doesn't look bad:

This was a custom ordered kit for one our customers and he was thrilled with the result. Personally I think it turned out great and is very unique but its not for everyone. Different strokes for different folks.

"Forged" carbon fiber doesn't look good in-person either. It literally looks like garbage pieces of cf glued together. The guy who purchased my previous Corvette removed all great-looking gloss black aero pieces & body-color rear spoiler, and replaced them with this nonsense. Totally ruined the appearance of the car. But was his car then.

Forged Carbon

Just another unfortunate marketing term.
