Getting hilarious how many versions of challengers there are. I'm waiting for the "Final Edition. No Seriously, This is It," Edition, and the subsequent "Ok, One More Time,
" Edition.

It's a shame the world is becoming more and more class specific. That was always the thing about SRT, it was a bit more focused on "regular guys" that's were willing to spend a little more and get some that was more badass.

I get why they do stuff like this, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

A trickle charger wasn't possible. I only had a carport with no electrical outlet.

My cure for the drop off of the battery due to lack of sufficient use was to drive the car more. I ended up using it 2 days a week to drive to/from work, 60 miles round trip. This was in northern CA (Livemore CA) and in that area winter driving was not a problem. Winter in Livermore was really just cloudy days...

IDGAD what nobody says... Low 9's in the wild is BONKERS QUICK!!!

The only time I've driven that quick was in a custom TT Audi R8 which costs significantly more than this Dodge.

https://www.motortrend.com/news/2023...ragstrip-pass/

2023 Dodge Demon 170 Runs Low 9s in the Wild
First privately owned “Last Call” Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 makes dragstrip pass in 9.39 seconds going over 147mph.

Quote:
With Steven behind the wheel, his 2023 Demon 170 ran the quarter-mile at Island in 9.398 seconds at 147.73 mph, which he says can and will be improved on. We're definitely along for that ride, and will keep you apprised if ... well, more likewhenit becomes the first privately owned 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 in the 8s.

Stock as a Rock

Steven Ripa's 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 was tested in bone-stock trim, with absolutely nothing done to its supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 or any other powertrain components. The drive to Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey, was his first time piloting the street-legal race car since taking delivery of it from the dealer.

Dang, why is everybody hating? In a world of everything being mild hybrid, awd, with tons of safety systems in place what’s not to love here?

Of course it’s ridiculous and of course it suck’s to drive on the street. It’s a 1,025 hp rwd death trap that makes cool noises. I love it 😂

What a sad bunch of insecure BMW owners…if you cant appreciate a factory drag car with number plates in this age of EV’s & the like then i feel sorry for you because you really have no clue.
Nothing reeks of inexperience with performance cars more than a ‘badge’ fanboy.

It's pretty lame when a factory drag car in perfect conditions with a perfect launch can't beat a nobody drinking a soy latte in a Tesla who just needs to mash a pedal.

And the fact that Dodge offered any number of Jailbreak editions to option out any Challenger to your liking is also awesome. Just like the 1960's.

Also cool that the "170" refers to the "proof" of the E85 fuel that it runs fastest on.

A Challenger or Demon never suited my wants/needs, but I never rank on someone else's car love. All of the car guys that I know, appreciate all forms of special cars. It is also highly unlikely anyone will lose money on a Demon 170, as opposed to nearly every other car out there, including a Tesla.

In general, BMW owners aren't in it for dragging...but the move to straight-line performance with AWD and hybrid-assist systems in even ICE cars is disappointing. Drag racing is really a one-pony-show. Lots of cars can be fast in a line AND around a course and fun to drive. Drag really only hits on that first point. The way I see it, rocket motors mounted on the back would be even faster...so might as well do that.

Havn’t been to ‘the skids’ for about 30 years & no i wouldn’t buy a Demon or any car built in the USA for that matter, but it doesnt mean that im unable to appreciate it for what it is.

I have drag raced one of my BMWs, a turbo E36 M3. And I sold my fast-in-a-straight line and around a course and fun to drive E90 M3 for a faster-in-a-straight line and less fun to drive F90 M5. Unlike some of you, I don’t live on a race track or near deserted canyon or mountain roads. The vast majority of my driving is on fairly straight roads where I get to enjoy fast-in-a-straight line much more than I get to enjoy fast-around-a-course. While my cars are ICE, I think I could be happy with an EV like a Tesla Plaid, Lucid Air Sapphire, or Porsche Taycan Turbo.

And that is the point. Supposing that I put the hurt on a "track car" in a stoplight race and/or a highway pull, I am not going to ever hear him muttering to himself, that he would beat me at a road course.

Plus, I don't have to fling my car into a curve to feel the massive torque each and every time I accelerate in my day-to-day driving. I love that.

In reality, nearly every automaker has actually gone from fast-in-a-straight line to a much better balance, except Dodge - and more power to them. Pun intended.

I would call attention to the Camaro SS 1LE, as a perfect example. Or the base C8 corvette. Or the last generation of GT500 and GT350, which proved very capable on the track. Both Camaro and Mustang were one-trick ponies roughly 10 years ago. Corvettes roots were straight line performance. BMW may have gone the other way, according to many aficionados, adding more weight and more power. But the F90 M5 is certainly a good balance of power and handling, even so. A 10-second street car that can handle turns is pretty impressive.
