Agreed.
Also the bump from an 86 to a 230i especially at the elevation is noticeable. The 86 is about as fast as my RSX-S. I've driven a B48 equipped vehicle and it felt more powerful, but in a different way (mostly torque). The lighter cars feel fast even if they aren't going as fast haha. I'm glad the 230i exists, as not everyone needs 400hp. To me the M-lite M240i is the perfect balance under the M2 but above the base 2. I have no love for the new M2, as at least the older one looked better... it has way worse mpg for hp that's barely usable, no xDrive available, rougher suspension, and more expensive parts... so unless you track a bunch or NEED a 6MT, it doesn't make sense for most. I would get a used Porsche if I wanted that. Side question, does anyone have sales figures for the 2 series split across the 230i, M240i, and M2? |

To answer your question, speed and max power is only one attribute to a balanced sports car...I like all those bits of handling, braking, and the subjective aspects to stability and predictability at higher limits. I don't need monster 0-60 times alone, or I'd just by a big motor and xDrive. I still want my M2, sure, but I absolutely love my 230. In the same way people love a FT86s, MX-5s, E30 BMWs, and many others. |
