Ive noticed what I think is a new sound from my car ,drove off from home this morning radio on very low noticed a quite high pitch whining sound not loud only quiet .sounded like drive or transmission whine to me never noticed it before ....once car was warm it went away completely.3400 miles on the clock just about to change oil. car stock engine wise.

anyone else notice anything similar ...slow speeds I was in town between 25 and 35 mph .

I get a high pitched whining sound when I accelerate hard - like when joining a motorway.
Only happens when the wife is in the car tho.

I have this faint whining noise too when accelerating when the car is fairly cold. I think it might be exhaust related. Haven't noticed it for while now maybe I just got used ti the noise. I'll pay attention to it on morning drives and see if it's still there.

Here's a line I grabbed from the press launch of the m240, A split-cooling valve makes it possible to temporarily shut off engine
block cooling, thereby optimizing warm-up.

I believe we hear these different noises because the car does operate differently when not fully warmed. Once it hits it operating temp it then performs as expected. Another example is I read that the active grill will always start closed to maximize getting the engine hot on start up. Unless you have it in sport or high AC.

My last car would make a whining noise when the engine was cold. The problem turned out to be the timing belt, and for some reason since it was getting old it would whine and squeal a little before it got up to operating temp (rather than just whine all the time).
