I think the idea is that it would be a lot more costly if anything goes wrong during or after the install. The shop assumes that responsibility, so I would imagine they feel they can charge top dollar for the install.
When I was calling around for estimates, the first thing the shops mentioned was - "oh, that has the electronic suspension". And then the second thing they mentioned - "So it's a 2024 ?" . After that, all I could hear was cha-ching cash register sounds. |

And what their 'reasoning' is for what they charge. We all can agree that what shops are charging is crazy expensive. Next time I ask for an install quote I'll let them know this guy on the internet named Rdurty said it's too much. Maybe they will lower the price. |

Good point. Believe me, when I started getting quotes for the spring install, I was a bit shocked. I was expecting to pay around $600 at the most. |

I wound up installing the system with a friend this past weekend. He has experience with coilovers installs, but it took longer than we had planned. If I had to do it again I think we could probably do it in 5-6 hours. Definitely not difficult, but having the right strut knuckle spreader makes a huge difference on the fronts. And the hardest part of the EDC was getting the wires tucked nicely and the provided zip ties lined up.

I can only speak to my experience, but yes, 3 of my 4 struts blew out after installing the lowering springs and both BMW and the independent mechanic believe the additional load was the cause, that and BMW’s move to lower quality OEM struts. I am running the AWD variant, FWIW.

It does makes sense , as the spring / damper pairs are developed so that at max height , the damper is not under excessive load . When lowering the car , you are basically putting a constant load on the hydraulic system of the damper , and that is excess strain on seals mainly. |

I'm no expert , but i would think that any spring / damper combination that has not been engineered one for each other will cause excess strain on the damper. The dampers mainly have compression and rebound. When putting a lowering spring , you are basically putting the damper in constant state of compression, and any road imperfections are loading it more than it would normally load up with the stock springs.
The best - but most expensive way - to lower your car , is with coilovers , as both the spring and damper work in unison and have been developed toghether. |

Another forum member in Vegas told me about an aftermarket and wheel and tire shop in Vegas who did his M240i and his brothers M4. I believe it was $800 out the door for the spring install. So I went with them. However, I just Googled the shop, and it's PERMANENTLY CLOSED , lmfao. So obviously I can't recommend them. Just make sure whatever shop you go with has experienced with the BMW EDC suspension. Just for peace of mind. |

Works perfect. No noises no CEL. I went with my friends shop but he doesn’t really do suspension work at his shop he just used to do a lot of wrenching before he started his detailing business. So I trusted him and it worked out! I will say it was way less than $1k haha. |
