Ride quality is something that BMW need to sort out on their M Comps … in many of the modern M Comp models the “Comfort” setting for the suspension is a misnomer especially when coupled with the horrendous state of the UK’s roads. It takes away from the pleasure of the ownership experience unfortunately.
The G80 comp chassis is very tight. (The manual has a more supply ride quality while still driving on rails.) The issue is they want it to be track ready, but most people don’t take their car to a track. In my opinion having owned the comp x is the car is trying to do too much and have every scenario possible instead of allowing the engineers to dial the car into the balanced sport sedan setup like the e39 was. In reality the chassis has become so taut to be obnoxious. And it’s not the weight that is the forcing factor because the e39 was slightly heavier than the g80 comp.

I’m guessing 99% of thread responders have never driven an e39 let alone the m5 cs. Lol

The only two that I think are a bit ugly are the E60 and the F10. F90 is an awesome looking, but I think the G90's extra girth really makes it look special.

Congrats on the E60 manual though! I would still turn my head and give a thumbs up if I saw one.
That's crazy, as I have both the F10 and E60 (alongside E34) in my Top 3 best looking M5's
To each their own

I think we can both recognize, if an objective study was calculated, that the F90 and E39 would score the highest. Both most perfectly fit the distinct look of a BMW super-sedan.

I just watched these videos this weekend, they're all a great watch. My vote is E60, E34, and G99 in that order.
I've moved from the camp of driving fast cars slow to the camp of driving slow cars fast.

I wasn't able to max out the performance of my M550i (and previously M340i) without risking jail time.

Then I thought what if I bought a slow manual car. Bought a 6 speed manual 140 hp Suzuki for pocket money - the gearbox has such close ratios that I can shift all 6 gears within 50mph (obviously not to redline)! Car is quite fun to max out. Since it's FWD I can't fishtail off the road (could still understeer off though).

I can also drive it hard it without risking something breaking and if I get stones flung into it by SUVs/trucks I don't get too upset.

I think I need a F87 M2 if I have more pocket money to spend.

Best is an opinion.

I own one so I'm in the 1%.

This is the worst 1% club ever.

Am I the only one that finds it “unfair” that every generation was a well preserved model and the F90 came out with the “super model (cs)

I’m an F90 owner- so no hard feelings. But shouldn’t it have been equally offered models?

Great video. Although, comparison with the CS was not ideal, should have been against a F90 comp.

I love the E39 and F90 designs. But F90 it is considering the overall package!

F10 not LCI or Comp.
E39 with money spent on it to drive like it once did.
G90 with reservations as to weight and long term reliability.

Spotted an E60 M5 in Interlagos Blue at valet when catching a flight last week, still looks absolutely fabulous. Engine has to be one of the GOAT.

E39 is nice but feels so dated, E60 has stood the test of time and still looks great today.

F10 feels like it could sit between E39 and E60 in the generations, somehow looks older than E60.

G90 LCI is a very sharp looking car, just the right amount of nip, tuck and tweaks over the pre-LCI.

The E60 despite having the best sounding V10 is referred to as Matrons Car over here, you must be kidding right

I believe I first called the E60 the "Dame Edna" after the product launch on the island of Sardinia back in 2003. While most automotive writers complained about the "Asian" look of the tail, I couldn't get the Dame Edna glasses out of my mind the second I saw the headlight treatment—and said as much in the first Roundel article on that model.

Comp too low suspension for my neck of the woods, with humps etc, the quicker rack doesn't impress me and the extra 15 hp is nothing. I prefer easier softer ride of the normal one and LCI have just negligable bits and pieces replaced, you have to pay extra for those LED lights which I don't need.

I must say the thought did enter my mind also with the design of the rear end.

E34 gets my vote, last of the hand built M cars at Garching.
Owned mine for around 4 years, ultimate Q car (sleeper) in its day
