I purchased a new 2024 BMW M2 in February, 2024. Due to unseasonal heavy rains this year, my car set idle until May, 2024. At that point, the message on the dash said, "Replace Battery." I charged the battery and it seemed fine, but repeated the "Replace Battery" message.
The dealer informed that the battery was a lithium ion battery and should be replaced. He said the cost was $2000.00 He said the failure is my fault because I did not charge the battery sooner. He said charge the battery fully and he would re-register the battery. Now I read that fully charging the battery is not good for the battery and could cause a fire. Should I have to pay $2000.00 for a new battery or should BMW replace it under warranty?

M2 has a AGM Battery... only M3/4/5 have Li-Ion.... and no, no warranty.. bmw will read errormemory/ Batterychargetable.. and will see that car was not moving for a few months without recharging-- so the will void warranty....

Unless BMW did a running change from the 2023 models that hasn't been made public, it is an AGM battery. Best to try reconditioning with a smart charger such as the CTEK MXS 5.0, otherwise a replacement should be about US$500 from the dealer.

You shouldn't need to replace a battery simply because the car sat for a while. Get a CTEK & charge it up. Also find a new dealer if they don't what type of battery the car has.
