Intake to turbo piping options

I want to keep the OEM intake box but am considering upgrading the piping from the box down to the turbo (intake pipe & turbo inlet).
Would there be any benefits to getting rid of the resonators and plastic accordions?
Better sound and/or response? Anyone tested this?

I did this originally before getting a dinan intake and then moving to mst.

The oem intake box even with an aftermarket filter, and then aftermarket piping from box to turbo made no discernible difference in sound and zero difference in response.

It was a waste of money.

Thanks for the input. What benefits do you notice with the Dinan?

It’s louder.

That is pretty much the main point of an aftermarket intake.

Ive seen similar opinions on the interwebs. That going to a cold air intake only benefits sound and no performance improvements, some have even ventured to say that it loses some "oomph" or power (it may have been on reddit, I forgotten). I am curious if an aftermarket "performance" drop-in filter will do better. Does anyone have any input/knowledge on this?

The “best” setup for any gen 2 b58 has always been to keep the stock box and get a drop in filter. You just get no sound from it which people love.

It will provide the best temps and the stock intake is good for up to 600hp. Hell I saw someone the other day with an m340 with 700hp on stock intake. Granted he might be leaving some hp on the table but either way the general consensus is that bmw did a great job designing the intake.

I wonder if the stock box would be louder after removing that big piece of foam inside the box? What purpose does that serve?

The noise provided by the MST with turbo inlet is worth its cost regardless of changes in power.

I'm not sure what the purpose of that big piece of foam inside the the stock airbox is, but I do know it makes a great place for a mouse nest!
