I recall when my wife got her 2020 X3MC. It was one of the first the dealership got. A tech was talking to me about it and mentioned the "7 speed DCT" and I corrected him that it wasn't a DCT. He started to argue about it....

There are people in their field of study who don't know everything about their field of study.

Techs often don't know a damn thing. I had to argue with the master tech and SA at my local dealership to prevent them from doing unnecessary work on my F87C because they were unable to correctly read the text in a TSARA case.

lol what a crock of shit….if the car was running at 80% power and then got the full power after the service that would be what a 25% increase in power from when it was delivered…Do you really think people would be having to ask if it does anything if they are getting 25% more power lol. Would be pretty damn obvious.

Exactly. And people have dyno'd these M cars prior having that service done and they don't come up 20% short on HP or torque. Kind of reminds me of those old wive's tales of "My pickup's MPG doubled at 10,000 miles!!"

If you could describe the feeling with numbers e.g. +10-20% power, it would be most appreciated
i dont feel anything different except i am pushing the car harder now.

the dealer didnt claim the service would do anything than the fluid changes, calibration post the diff oil change and an ash test (euro spec, emissions).

NOTHING happens at 1,200mi except fluid swaps and resetting the counters.

This myth needs to DIAF.

I’ve always been informed that yes, it’s only a fluid swap, however, the fluids in the car from the factory are different (heavier) than the standard operating fluids for the purpose of the break-in.

No, I don’t have documentation to back it up, it’s just what I’ve always been told.

Either way, I plan on adhering to the guidelines when my car arrives.
It’s only 1,200 miles of discipline for a little piece of mind on an expensive (to me) car.
Not enough of an inconvenience to argue about it.

From the few S58 break-in oil samples I’ve seen tested so far, the oil from the factory seems to have similar properties to the standard 0w30 LL-01FE oil specified, but with higher Molybdenum. The Molybdenum may just be from the assembly lubricant that is liberally used on journal bearings cams and cam followers, likely 50ml or so that mixes with the oil soon after first start.

The cam and journal protection from the assembly lube is only needed until the oil fully circulates.
