I have had to install radiator/oil cooler protection on all my cars. Most recently, purchased a 2024 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. As others have stated, the front bumper ‘holes’ are wide open. (Maybe not as much as my G87 M2, but still.) I got the Zunsport protection before the car was delivered. Took 30 minutes and about 4 beers to install. I believe I paid $600 or so. Chump change for protection on such a beautiful built-to-order dream car. At least that’s what I think.

I do agree that it’s kinda lame Porsche only puts protective mesh on the GT cars. But getting a BTO GT P-Car right now is very difficult…and expensive 🤑

Happy Motoring!

Anyone running the upgraded CSF coolers that come with the rock guards?

I might go this route instead since the added cooling would probably be beneficial where I live just didn't know how well the rock guards are.

The oil cooler with guard isn't too much more than the skid plate I was looking at so figured might as well.

The fact of the matter is many of us do our due diligence with a little research and make informed decisions. I read up on the M2 before I purchased it, found a thread titled $1600 radiator, or something to that effect, discussing taking a rock to the radiator. I then thought, hmm I drive a lot on debris-filled roads, maybe I should be proactive and install some protective screens.

I then read a thread about a totaled brand new M2 due to the oil cooler being punctured & thought again, hmm maybe I should be proactive and install a protective screen. Those of us with higher-level thinking abilities solve potential problems, and don't whine about how car manufacturers are screwing us.

This thread is fun

The open maw look of the G87 was a BMW design choice. We saw it and we bought it.

BMW has no culpability for road debris damage regardless of the design theme of the car. Sure, they "cheaped out" by not supplying guards, I think we can all agree on that. But that line of thinking leads one to think BMW should apply PPF in the factory too to prevent rock chips.

Add them or don't but complaining on the forum about BMW's design theme is pointless.

I mean that's literally half of the threads on this forum, you'd have us close up and shut the forums down? I think not sir. I think not.
