I noticed a bigger puddle of water under my M340 today and thought it was kind of strange as I had not seen much A/C condensation since getting car. We had A/C on much lower setting than normal as weather finally cooled down. I thought maybe someone had poured a drink or something in parking lot. When I got home it was dripping a ton of water as well so I figured it had to be A/C. Took another drive with A/C off and no water dripped then one more with A/C on higher settings and no drip as well. Not sure what is going on but only difference is weather for me. Maybe some water gets built up first?

Can't really disagree. While I find it hard to believe the compressor could be engaged even with the A/C disabled via the climate control controls I can't really say I would believe it is impossible the compressor could not be engaged even with the A/C disabled.

Thinking out loud -- so to speak -- I wonder under what circumstances would the compressor be surreptitiously engaged?

I do know A/C systems like to be used regularly. This circulates the refrigerant and along with it compressor oil. This oil helps prolong the life of the A/C seals/o-rings. So even in the winter my SOP has been to operate my residence A/C occasionally (I shoot for once a week..) and to also operate my vehicle A/C. A bit easier task because even in the winter the A/C is on most of the time I'm in the car to help dry the air and avoid fogging the windows.

From the manual: "In recirculated-air mode, air conditioning is automatically switched on to dry the air and avoid window condensation" - this is independent of using air conditioning for temperature control but is dependent on the condensation sensor.

I confirm my M2 is set to "Fresh Air" mode.

The mystery continues.

Thanks.

Never got to that part. I stopped reading the climate control info as soon as I learned how to put it in automatic mode and turn it on.

I never use recirculated air mode as I learned with my very first car which this feature the windows fogged up.
