My wife’s 2015 435 has a similar noise and that is definitely coming from the steering column |

I’m not sure it’s worth the effort to take it to the dealer. I’m sure they would just say “ unable to duplicate “ |

Same here. I’ll keep an eye out in case someone had the same issue but found a definitive fix for it. I did have a good experience from the dealer when my previous F30 had a buzzing in the A pillar. They took it seriously and helped to isolate and fix it.

I have this rattle, it's a metallic tinny sound that lightly vibrates over certain road surfaces. I checked the springs under the centre storage door and it did not solve it. I'd love to find out how to get rid of this.

I'll play around with the center storage console lid as it really did sound like it came from here |

This same rattle came back win a vengeance this morning...
I pulled off the trim off the console lid to play around with the springs, and it wasn't the springs. Some combination of pressing and pushing on the cupholders in the center console and removing and putting the 12V socket plug back in made it stop for the rest of the drive. Could be something to do with the cupholders, or the 12V socket. There are springs in the cupholder, for those nubs that hold your cup. Those could be a culprit too. Maybe me pushing and banging around that area set the springs back in place. |

Funny you mention that, since I picked mine up there has been a rattle that appears to be coming from the cupholder area and it gets worse when a cup is in the right cupholder. At first, I thought the cup I had was maybe too big and was vibrating enough while driving to constantly tap the cover for that area but that was not the case (and it didn't happen in my G20). I've suspected there was something going on there with the nubs but haven't had a chance to dig into it yet.

I have a '23 and it's a very faint quick rattle on my left front dash. Pulling the top left corner of the screen resolves the problem. Pushing the dash down to the left of screen also clears It The crease between the dash and screen seems to be my issue

No bueno on my fix. Back again this AM. Literally driving me insane. Some days I absolutely despise this vehicle, and I'm stuck with it for another 3 years.
Regardless, it's already going back to the dealer for another remediation (part came in, sunroof shade and rails), guess I'll add this to the list, too. |

Solved my issue. I cut out a piece of card board about 8 cm wide and 30cm long. Then I pushed it in the gap between the top of the flip lid on the dashboard central storage and the dashboard above it. It goes in a long way, but toward the centre I could feel the cardboard press on some cables and the tapping has been fixed!
Fingers crossed it lasts! Last edited by Scolpendra; 07-25-2024 at 01:12 PM.. |

Currently dealing with this same problem, pulling lightly on the corner of the screen to give space between the screen and the back of the dash makes it go away. I heard someone had luck with putting a piece of rubber / felt in this area. Something to do with the screen hardware hitting the attachment points. Don't really feel like this is something we should have to DIY "fix" though, so I will bring it up with my advisor next time I go for service...

A couple days ago I wedged a piece of thin rubber behind the left side of the display where it meets the dashboard. I used a credit card to push it down. The rattle is gone now |

For the rattle coming from the iDrive 8 screen and the dash behind it, they took it apart and added felt tape throughout. Completely fixed the issue (and they could clearly reproduce my complaint). It helped to mention a slight pull forward from the left corner made the noise go away. I also had some weird creaks in the steering wheel. Putting any sort of lateral pressure (forward/back) at the 9 and 3 position revealed it. They had to drill two tiny holes in the steering column to access the airbag compartment and tighten two screws that were likely the culprit. I was hesitant to ok this, but it is apparently an official BMW service bulletin. This also fixed the issue, so I suppose two miniscule drill holes that aren’t visible / can’t be felt were worth it. Now I’m left with an occasional creak (from I think the headliner / c pillars?) when going over pronounced speed bumps slowly, but I’m very thankful to have the two more frequent annoyances resolved. |
