Question Power increase with mid-pipe and/or downpipe

Wondering what kind of power increase one can expect with a mid-pipe, downpipe, and both. Thinking of AA single mid-pipe and downpipes specifically but I imagine other manufacturers will have similar numbers. Thoughts?

Edit - wondering about increase specifically with stock tune.

-Many Thanks

My baseline numbers full stock was
454whp and 407 tq

With IRL mid and valve controller
459whp and 430 tq

Most single mids should have similar numbers

+1 these are the numbers that we are seeing with the single midpipe

i expect even more HP increase with the downpipes upgrade

I should dyno mine. Are we saying only a single midpipe will pick up extra power? Not an equal length?

Unfortunately, you won't see more than 15whp without a tune. The stock computer will likely just lower boost to compensate for the reduced restrictions.

They should both have some increased in power. I'd bet the singles out perform the equals but not by a ton until the power levels are increased with a proper tune.

Single midpipes are better for performance than equal length? I've never even really thought about it before, but it makes sense.

Thanks for pointing that out.

One bank has 8+ sharp bends while the other bank is pretty much straight.

The single is equal flow for both turbo banks.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense. I don't know why that's never occurred to me.

You'd never know I majored in physics in college for a year. I guess that's what 4 years in private equity does to you.

I had equal length on my last M2. In light of recently learned information, I will be going single on the new one.

Thank you!

To be fair I think most people go for the equal length because they like the sound and not the horsepower.

Horsepower lovers will tend to go for the x pipe and single.

Tune alone on these cars is big power but the bolts certainly help.

Add ons/bolt ons + tune (for flex fuel) is really big power.

Yeah Tune is huge. But those pesky main cats are a bottleneck.

I don't know, I'm running the Evolution Racewerks midpipe and crossover pipe. I don't know if there's any more power but my butt dyno thinks that i'm in boost longer. I'm assuming with less backpressure, the turbos spool easier and i'm able to get more useable mid range torque. These are of course simply speculations. I haven't done a pre and post dyno.

Definitely some gains from the reduced restriction.

I just posted my dyno numbers with a mid pipe only and BMC filters and basically there were no power gain* (or its within the margin of error for a 465whp car). It just sounds pretty sweet.

Downpipes would be the biggest gain by removing the primary cat. I'm sure there are dyno numbers floating around online.

*
I personally wouldn't consider a 10hp increase over stock (a 2.17% increase) a "real power gain". A really cold day could yield better results.
