I want to do this. Can't wait.
What do you mean by private session? Was that an add on or something?

You can book a private session with instructors. Pick what you'd like to do and you'll have 2 hours (minimum commit is 2 hours) to do that. It's a separate booking with the performance center

I would like to be able to drive her car to work some days to mitigate that but I can't because she can't drive my car. -Bonus : I pay $1300/a month for a fun car she can't drive, and it is technically her money and car too lol. She loved driving my x4m40i before this and was sad she can't drive a fast car now. Going to turn this in as soon as I can and get an auto. Probably a G80 or an X5m60i if I can swing it.
-Bonus Bonus : the auto feels so much quicker than the manual for obvious reasons. but anyone who buys the manual knows this I suppose.

Congrats on the M2! Sounds like an awesome trip, and I'll second the PCD recommendation. If you're getting a new BMW (even if it's not an M car) and have the opportunity to take delivery down there, just do it. First class operation and a ton of fun.

Also, it looks like you had the same delivery suite as I did!

Curious how much it was.
I'm getting the carbon pack so it comes with the M drivers package. Wondering if I can trade that lol

$650 per hour for the first 2 hours. Then $500 per hour past the first 2 hours.

First track event is in two weeks at Watkins Glen with GVC, so excited to get back on track for the first time in 13 years!
Nice post man & glad you got to enjoy this fun event. However, you mentioned "numb steering feel" & then said "steering accuracy and sharpness is incredible... " in the very next sentence. LMAO Talk about contradictions...

That cause those are 2 separate things.

I know exactly what he’s describing.

My car is currently in production and I have asked for PCD. Hoping to bring a good friend as my +1.
Can you elaborate on exactly what is included for free in terms of track time, vs the extra booking you did? And how much did that cost.
Would love to know all the variables. Thanks!

Well said. I'm trying to steer mine into an X5M60 for her next one... she drove one at PCD and loved it. Gotta get the V8 while you still can!

Nice! Such a great experience to see the car for the first time in there, especially when it was 90 degrees out.

Exactly. Honestly, the private session was the highlight of the trip for me. Spending time (mostly solo) on the skidpad for almost an hour was priceless.

As BroDoze mentioned, two completely separate things. Steering feel = feeling through your hands what the car is doing and how it's reacting. Steering accuracy/sharpness = when I turn the wheel 10 degrees, how much/well does it turn and can I accurately replicate it over and over. This has been a consistent complaint from those coming from cars with hydraulic steering. Precision-wise, the M2 is a scalpel to the E92's butter knife, but your hand is asleep.

A few thoughts:

Make sure your CA fills in and submits all necessary PCD paperwork to BMW ASAP. Apparently some forget, don't know they need to, or fill it out incorrectly and it can cause issues. My CA was very on top of it and it was smooth.

We stayed at Hotel Hartness and it was incredible. They also picked us up from the airport and did all pickup/drop offs at BMW in a brand new X5M60, which was cool.

The day is 8am-3pm. Starts with classroom, then you do a bunch of exercises (threshold braking, skid pad - but only quickly to show you with and without DSC, and a mini auto-x), then you have lunch, go to the museum (waste of time... this is a placeholder until factory tours open back up), and then do a quick off-roading course in X5s before taking delivery. You sit in the car with your +1 and can switch off driving in each exercise.

If you've never been on track or done high performance driving, I think it's great. If you have, and want to get some real hot laps or spend time perfecting car control on the skid pad, then you'll need to do a private session or sign up for one of their schools if there is one before or after your delivery day. As mentioned above, cost for private instruction is $650/hr with a 2-hr minimum, then $500/hr thereafter. Also, they only book private sessions 2 weeks out, so it's tough to plan if you're flying in. Hope that helps.
