Neither car is great for road trips to Killington in winter. I would opt for 4WD/AWD and some clearance for potential deep snow….but an XDrive M3 with winter tires would be better than the M2.

I think doing hardcore winter duty in a M3 is punk rock. Coolest thing I ever saw was an Aston with winters when I lived in Chicago. We just saw a tanzanite (my wife’s fav) M4 driving into Philly for the birds game. My girl is convinced we need a M3 (grandkids down the road also a factor)

Just put in an order for a 2025 M2 in Portimao Blue Metallic, 6MT at East Bay BMW in Pleasanton CA. It was easy to find dealers at MSRP but I tried to pin Stevens Creek, Fremont, and East Bay BMW against each other but none would budge from MSRP.

Hopefully I get a confirmation email from BMW soon. Not really sure what the steps are from here.

Nice, congrats! I'd double check that they actually have an allocation and production number and didn't just put you on the waitlist.

I'd also triple check these things because I had a pretty bad experience with East Bay BMW. They tried to tell me that there were $1.5k in mandatory dealer add-ons, and then tried charging me a $5k non-refundable deposit because I wasn't "local" to the east bay (At the time I lived 20 mins away from the dealership in Fremont lol...)

I did a $1000 fully refundable deposit. I’m #6 on the waitlist but I don’t mind waiting an extra month or two. Then if it turns out I’ll never get an allocation I’ll just go Fremont or Concord BMW.

The sales guy was trying to get me to click every option. He told me at the time of purchase they’ll suggest add ons but at no time am I obligated to purchase them. He gave me an invoice with my OTD price ($74,400, MSRP $66,725) and I asked him this is the price and there will be no dealer add ons etc.

I was actually shopping a Mustang Dark Horse but only found one dealer willing to do MSRP and Ford upped the base Dark Horse to $65,200 with a paint option, would be $72,800 OTD with cloth seats!

For the price the M2 is all around the better equipped, faster, better handling car between the two, plus BMW had way better color choices.

Although I will say it might be worth calling around to a few more dealerships as well - 6th on the waitlist might be quite a wait. I got an allocation within two days of talking to BMW Fairfield (I was first on the waitlist).
