PPF front bumper difficulty on G87

Just took delivery of a 2025 M2 yesterday and called the local PPF installer this morning to schedule an appointment for the front bumper. He did my F87 M2 Comp and did a fantastic job. After 3+ years it still looked new, no peeling or yellowing. XPEL Ultimate.

This morning he told me they don't do wraps anymore and he referred me to another installer in the next town over, who he highly recommends. Called that installer, told him I just wanted the front bumper, and he said they couldn't do it. They do most any other car, but he tried more than one G87 and said they were too difficult and there was too much material waste based on the bumper shape.

There are other installers I could go to, but I was surprised to hear this about the G87. Has anyone else run into PPF installers who said the G87 is particularly challenging compared to most other cars?

BTW, the F87 front bumper cost me $600 in 2021. After it was done, the installer said he's charging more the next time he does an M2, as it took quite a bit more effort than he expected. I'm guessing if I can find an installer for the G87, it might be $1000 this time, which is fine.

I wouldn't mess with any installer who claims its too difficult. Go to someone who has more confidence in their ability than that. I'm sure it is challenging, but many cars present different challenges with PPF and it sounds like that shop just doesn't want to put in the effort.

I can't mess with him. He won't do it.

It's definitely more difficult. When I had PPF done on my last G87 the team said it was the hardest car they've ever done. They cited the same issue, the front bumper. Mine actually had a seam running straight across the front.

I've heard of some installers who have figured out how to do the whole front bumper as one piece, I just don't know who or how they're doing that.

Good luck.

I concur, I've done about 10 personal cars with PPF and the front bumper of the G87 wasn't fun but not my least favorite.

If I can do this and do no more than 1 car every 2 years, the pro's can do it.

Call around but maybe you'll need to look further out.

Good luck!

My PPF installer said that the G87 bumper does present challenges but can be done. It could increase cost a bit more.

Just take a look at the number of very poor jobs people have posted on this site. My shop (Xpel Dallas) did a phenomenal job & I've referred many people to them over the years. They said it was very difficult & they know how particular I am, but I had no reservations about them doing it. I paid $2,600 for front bumper, headlights, front fenders, side mirrors, a-pillar kit, & rocker panels.

The shop I went to here in CT said the same things other guys have posted - G87 bumper presents challenges because of all of the angles and openings. He said it's one of the hardest he's done. And this is a well respected, high end shop that does TONS of supercars here in CT. He told me I'd likely have to bring it back for some lifting - and he was right. THe lifting helps them find where they need to make relief cuts. Now everything looks fantastic. You will pay more for this car. I only did the bumper & side rockers + window tint: $1600.

This guy had patterns & a machine large enough to cut the templates, too.
