Femto/Tuning Questions

Hey all! I wanna ask some newb-ish questions after doing some searching and finding *some* info that lead to more questions. Maybe we could consolidate some of the most important info here for later lurkers. I want to do the whole Femto unlock process and do some of the main upgrades and knock everything out at once. I've got catless downs-pipes and a single midpipe on the way, should be here in a couple weeks or less. Seems the majority of people are going with Bootmod instead of MHD. I know both just released big updates. My plan was to go BM3, flex fuel kit and send the DME for the Femto unlock, then get a custom tune in a couple months.

1. Is there any reason to go MHD over BM3?
2. Should I wait for any new updates that may be coming out?
3. A buddy is telling me to go with European Performance Center since they hand deliver the DME, that shipping straight to Femto is a huge risk. Thoughts?
4. What other things should I do while I'm in this process? I see people talking about steering and trans tunes, but I can't find much info on it. Who does it?
5. What are some good reputable tuners to look into using? I know Botti is huge in the B58 world, but he's also busy as hell.
6. Any other suggestions? Anything else I should look into doing for this process?

I appreciate you gentlemen and the advice you provide in advance!

Why would you waste time and money on BM3 and then go custom tune route? Just do custom tune from the get go, your results will be better.

it's my understanding that doing a custome tune would use the BM3 software, the tuner just sends revised tunes after you do some data logging or dyno pulls, no? The tuner isn't installing his own tuning software...?

It is essentially an OTS tune from some random tuner. Much better going with a known tuner and a true custom tune.

send it yourself its very easy and you will save a lot of money in the process

4. What other things should I do while I'm in this process? I see people talking about steering and trans tunes, but I can't find much info on it. Who does it?
i only did the flash tune and im very happy with the results.

if you are looking into custom maps, i recommend checking out Halim HCP, g80paul or bend calibration

6. Any other suggestions? Anything else I should look into doing for this process?
nope, good luck

I will do this eventually but my biggest concern is traction with 600 whp RWD car. That and I will have to get a new clutch and install probably around $5k I imagine. I’m sure it will be fun as hell though.

I have a MT and am tuned at 550/550 HP/TQ. I have about 10,000 miles on it and 3 track days since I tuned it. Clutch has held up well at the 550 TQ numbers.
Traction is a little sketchy in the rain but not terrible. Just fine on dry pavement.
