Last weekend I had my GYSC3R. I will run the H-TAPs this upcoming Saturday at COTA

Very interested how they stack up vs the SC3R. I've ran the SC3R in 305/30/19 and now I'm rocking 295/35/18 in the RE71RS

Zion will hit us with some wisdom soon. I saw the car in action this weekend and the tires looked like they held up well and kept pace.

TLDR: These are impressive tires. I hope that I get 5-6 track days out of them.

So far I have run 3 different 305/30/19 tires:
  • Nankang CRS (V1)- 200TW
  • Goodyear Supercar 3R- 100TW
  • Hoosier Track Attack Pro- 200 TW
The Nankangs last 6 track days. The GYSC3R's are quicker than the Nankangs but only lasted 3 days until I could see cords.

So I was at COTA yesterday with the Hoosier Track Attack Pro tires. 305/30/19 square running Carbotech XP20 front pads. 6 Days earlier I was also at COTA on the GYSC3R with G-Loc R12 front pads and a 200 lb passenger. Because I had a passenger it's not quite an apples-to-apples comparison. Those who take a passenger can attest that you pull back a bit (or you would be wise to). Also comparing laptimes to times I got a few months ago with the GYSC3R isn't quite apples-to-apples because COTA has recently been repaved in preparation for the upcoming F1 race.

Yesterday with the H-TAP and no passenger my fastest lap was 2:26. Last week with a passenger and GYSC3R my fastest time was 2:30. My fastest time a few months ago before the repave my fastest time with GYSC3R was 2:28. Now I openly admit that my line and lap performance could use some improvement and lacks consistency.
Here are some observations about the H-TAP's
  • They seemed perform best at ~33psi hot
  • The first session I went out with 28 psi cold and the tires got up to 39 psi and would slide a bit. I lowered the pressure by 4 psi for the next session and another 1 psi in the heat of the afternoon
  • They get slippery at ~200 degrees (according to the TPMS); The GYSC3R could still hang at that temp. I did drift a bit around corners 8 and 11 on laps 5-6 with the H-TAPs
  • They would warm up enough to start to push at around 3/4 of the lap
  • I could take the carousel as fast in the H-TAP's as the GYSC3R's and faster than what I could do in the Nankangs
  • I had a slightly better exit speed out of turn 11 (which is critical to getting high speed on the backstretch) with the GYSC3R's
  • Wear was surprisingly minimal (see pics below) considering that they have 200 freeway miles and 40 laps at COTA

My conclusion is that the Hoosiers might be slightly better than the Nankangs and are close in performance to the Goodyears. Considering that the Goodyears only last 3 days the Hoosiers could be a great option if they last 5-6 days like the Nankangs. Just be aware that when they get hot you might slip out a bit when pushing it through sharp corners. As a bonus they are made in the USA so there won't be import problems like there have been with the Nankangs for most of this year. I will add pictures after future track days.

Thank you for the feedback. Did you heat cycled them before track use? I wonder doing so might actually extend life another ~2 days.

Sorta but I am not sure how good of a job I did. 2 days before I went to the track I drove aggressively on some country roads, bed some new brake pads, and did some higher speed serves to hear the tires chirp a bit. I got them up to 120 degrees according to the TPMS. I am unsure if that was sufficient for a heat cycle.

Goodyear SC3R: 29 lbs
Hoosier TAP: 24 lbs

If the CR-S is shaved to the same initial 4mm tread depth of the other 2 tyres, it would be about 28 lbs, though.

It's like the old saying- "eventually all sandpaper is the same grit" but now it is "all equal size tires are eventually the same weight"
