Exhaust setup

I've listened to all the clips on the internet but can't really get a good grasp on which I like. Anybody live in socal willing to meet up so I can hear you setup in person. Looking at valvetronic and AWE, but willing to hear any setup.

What kind of sound are you looking for and how loud do you want it?

I'd like a deep tone with a volume increase. I'm still not done with my break in period so I have time.

The exhaust does not need a break-in period; you can upgrade at any time.

the Valvetronic setup will get you a deeper tone than AWE

Thank you. That seems the exhaust most people are the happiest with. Will I need a valve controller to keep them open when I want?

It re-uses the stock valves so it will act the same as stock without the controller.

which means the valves will not open 100% unless you use the valve controller

If you get the Valvetronic valved sport exhaust system (its a catback), it comes with the valve controller. I have had it on my car for about 10 months now, very happy with it.

Just looked at the full titanium kit and it's price lol. But still might have to splurge.

Titanium while lighter (weight) will not give the tone you seem to say you want. It is a tinny higher pitched sound. The stainless give the deeper tone

+1

if you do not care about weight saving, the stainless steel is the more budget-friendly option and will deliver a deeper tone

What would you recommend if I’m looking for something similar to the Vanguard catback for the n54? A deep and throaty type sound. I hate all these tinny and raspy sounds these days. I’m looking at AWE, Milltek, and maybe valvetronic stainless steel.

Stick to the stock downpipes and a single midpipe for the deepest sound possible.

Resonated mid pipe axle back is also a winning combo.

Could you help me understand why a single mid is best for that? I thought x-piped helped eliminate the rasp

On the contrary, the X-pipe increases the rasp and gives you a more exotic high-pitched sound.

The single midpipe offers the cleanest tone with a deep midrange and no rasp throughout the entire RPM range.

Everytime you post about midpipes I want to pull the trigger… One day.

The single midpipe creates a deeper sound than an X-pipe because it merges the exhaust gases from both turbo banks into a single pipe for a longer period of time. This extended merging results in the exhaust pulses interacting more consistently, creating a smoother and more unified exhaust note.

In contrast, an X-pipe allows the exhaust gases to cross over briefly before continuing through separate pipes, which maintains some separation between the pulses. This separation can create a higher-pitched or raspier tone.

Rasp is further amplified on both systems with the removal of the cats and can be slightly tamed with the use of resonators.

Thank you for that explanation. Do you have any clips of a non-res midpipe and axle back set up with stock downpipes?

Very welcome !

I couldn't find any on youtube without downpipes or a different midpipe.

Here is a m3 with that setup which is very similar with the addition of a valve controller.

I just saw that and the g87 clip with catless downpipes. I’m sold lol. But I’d stay with my stock cats. Don’t feel like dealing with emissions bs again. Non res mid-pipe for sure though.
