Slightly used 2024 or 2025? Buying advice needed!

Hey everyone! Looking to buy a G87 soon, super excited! There are a couple 2024 M2's around me (SoCal) with one slightly used that I'm looking at really closely.

This one's listed for just over 65K with 2000 miles with an original MSRP of 70,245. Wanted to get some input here on if you think there's room for negotiation, if its already priced accordingly or if I'm just better off purchasing a 25? I know there was a mini-LCI but wouldn't mind saving a few bucks if I can.

Appreciate all the input and thank you in advance. Looking forward to joining the club!

i would say the biggest factor is if you care about the newer colors, i have an order for the '25 because of a newer available color.

Located in SoCal as well. Typically, I'm a fan of buying a couple years used. However, looking at the M2's, they have not depreciated enough in my eyes to buy used instead of new. If you can negotiate that down to the low 60s, that would seem like a fair / better deal.

Pros:
- 5k off (ask for 2k more off?)
- No sales tax
- you get it now (or when you have the cash)
- break in service already completed
- "basically new"

Cons:
- You didn't spec it
- It is slightly used
- You don't get the "mini-lci"

I mean seems like a pretty good deal to me. I remember waiting months for my car and ended up finding the ship my car was on and tracking its location to the VPC and then getting heartbroken it was delayed for a port-installed part.

So the idea of picking it up now is valuable to me as you could be driving it in less than "x" amount of time.

If you ordered a new 25 M2, you'd be waiting months and paying more.

I'm biased but I would go new. CA also requires you to pay sales tax on used vehicles, so the savings are really not worth it IMO.

My reasons:
- You get to spec it exactly the way you'd like it
- You get the flat bottom steering wheel + 25 extra HP
- New colors if you're into that
- You get to do the break in yourself for peace of mind

FWIW I got my car in exactly 60 days from the day I placed my order.

Is the used one spec’d how you’d like it (or close enough)? Anything you’d miss out on that you want, or anything extra that you don’t really want?

Rather than compare with rhe original MSRP, do a quick build and compare to that price. Are you willing to pay $x more for the new one with delivery in your spec?

Used and new car lots full here (Benton County AR). Word online is they are full everywhere. Sales of vehicles has tanked.

Thus this is a sign you can negotiate a lower price, as long as you are sure the car is worth owning.

In the past when shopping a used vehicle I used several used car sites: www.kbb.com; www.nada.com; to arrive at a trade in/whole sale value for the car I was considering.

My info is this is all the dealer has in the car.

My negotiation for the car started at the wholesale price.

Remember price is not fact only an opinion.

And there is always another car. Have a list of similar cars. You don't have to really have a huge interest in owning one of those cars. And they don't all have to be M2s just as long as they are comparable to the M2 but none are priced as high than the M2 you are looking at.

One other thing you get with the LCI is iDrive 8.5. 2024 had 8.0, and it can't be upgraded due to hardware limitations. I don't know what the differences are, but just adding it here for completeness.

My 2025 took 78 days between ordering and delivery. NY port.

100% this. I have a 2024 and had I known when ordering it if there were going to many more color options in 2025 I might have waited. Portimao blue metallic might have been the color I picked instead of black. The small HP bump and other little changes wouldn't have been enough for me to wait.

Hey everyone! Really appreciate the responses.

Going to go check it out today, it's honestly got everything I would have specced myself besides the color (I prefer black) but if I can negotiate a few more thousand down I think I can look past it. There are a lot of 2025's arriving on lots as well so going to definitely poke around at those too, and if the dealer isn't willing to budge a few thousand on their current price I'll probably just go new.

Love the Portimao! Had it for my M340i

Just know that those 2025 arriving are most likely customer orders.
Unless someone backs out they're not going to be up for sale.

I just bought a 25 from carlsbad bmw. I think if you can save 7-10k over me it's worth it to go used. If you care about the break in period then get me because there no way to know if the previous owner was gentle. All the ones in socal were 65-70k used and my 25 was 70k new so it was an easy decision. I prefer black as well but I like the grey as well so here we go.

This may be true of many brands and specific models. M2’s sitting on lots is not common or frequent. Stellantis, Ford and some GM dealers are typically sitting with a year’s worth of unsold inventory. BMW is typically not.

My 2 cents. If this is a car you will sell in a few years, negotiate a good deal and buy used. If you plan to have it for a long time, buy new and spec all you want.

All lots, including BMW, are full here. I know of no area where car sales are not down.

Sure M2s may be in short supply and thus not likely to be available at much if any discount, but one can't get a good price if he doesn't try.

well, my 0.2 worth. was in same boat.

was about to order a 25 (for my son) and then we found a 24 same spec as we had on the order sheet. I paid 68k with 1000 miles however they gave me 3.5k more for my m340 than anyone else offered and minus 4 month wait so we bought it.

so I saved some time and money, I don't want a car like this with high mileage before me but with 1000 miles and full warranty figured it was worth it.

Nice, I was reading through your thread the other night. Congrats on your new cars, test drove the RS3 as well but was just a little too tame.

Thanks for the response, I do tend to go through cars super quickly (its my only vice) so definitely taking this into account.

Thanks bud! It’s kind of cool owning both the m2 and rs3… I’m not sure why I bought the rs really… I just wanted something new I guess, the charger v8 was getting old and they kept raising insurance to the sky for no reason lol.
It’s definitely different, I kind of miss Having a true rwd car but this thing is very fun. I still like the m2 better overall but I needed a back door otherwise there would be 2 M2’s in the driveway !

We are very alone in that regard lol. I go through cars quickly too, partially because it’s used for work which gets me 25k/year (that’s the wife excuse too lol) but also because it’s my only splurge item as well. Let’s see how long this rs3 makes it haha. I think I will be back to bmw next either m340 , x3m , or somehow some way an m3 !
