BMW PCD Cancelled This Week Due to Hurricane Helene
FYI to everyone: I just got a call from Seth at the Performance Center Deliveries and due to Helene they are cancelling deliveries for this week. The facility has no power and unknown when they will restore power. He said my car is still there, but it cannot fueled, cannot be detailed or anything. So, they are calling customers to give them options of what to do (reschedule, come pick up car "as is" or try and figure out if they can ship it closer to customers).
My delivery was scheduled for Thursday, October 3rd so now I have to think about what to do... Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up in case you might be affected this week as well.

Damn sorry to hear.... I thought you were in the clear since your car is at PC. Remember me? I am still at the damn port ! Maybe I'm lucky to still be at port? LOL |

kraken Still not sure what I'm going to do yet....probably ask them to ship the car to NJ. It seems like stress on everyone (locals, and myself) compared to trying to reschedule and force the trip to happen right now.
I'm glad I took their recommendations to book fully refundable travel plans because "you never know what unplanned circumstances may occur." Both airline ticket and hotel are refundable, so at least there is not an additional sunk cost to this. This is my first brand-new BMW so I was certainly excited for the whole PCD experience, but I certainly understand their decision to cancel for this entire week. All the resources must be focused on more important tasks once power is restored to their building and to their employees who are still without power.

I've been calling and emailing left and right trying to get answers on my car.... my sales manager finally got back to me saying that it was on EPA hold since it's MY25 (per Seth from Perf. Center LOL). When I emailed PC last week, it was also Seth that responded to me, but he didn't (couldn't) tell me anything. The EPA and vehicle hold is now removed according to Seth so hopefully the car will move along the process.... depending on the cleanup efforts in the area of course. The whole EPA hold process is a mystery, I see ppl with MY25s M2/ 240s taking delivery already. Why weren't those on hold? Any update on your car? |

Wow that is super weird you had EPA hold. Glad to hear it got resolved.
I decided to have them ship my car to NJ. Simpler for everyone and can let people down there focus on more important things than letting me tool around their track 😀. I’m disappointed but you can’t control circumstances like this and honestly Seth was great to work with and helped make it as easy as possible while he was swamped with chaos. I’m might do the new ow we’d track experience and fly down there but it’s a long trip for 2-3 hours on a track. Certainly more appealing when you get your own car at the end of it.

Glad it sort of worked out for you. Seth said he is still working from home till Friday, only 2 people go to the PC at the moment. They also just got the power back yesterday so hopefully things are slowly getting back to normal.
PCD is def. a great experience, we did it this past March to pickup the X3 M40... My wife and I couldn't stop talking about it on the drive back to NY..... which is why I wanna do it again lol Hopefully you can get yourself down there one day and good luck with your car. |

Yeah, my X6 is waiting at PCD. Seth responded to my CA yesterday that power had been restored to the PC around noon. But all of their employees are affected by the devastation in the area and most still without power and clean water. I was scheduled for the 11th, but thinking that will be pushed. Or I will have to just make other arrangements.
Very sad for everyone up there.

mattinfll oh wow I didn’t think they would still be pushing those dates out. Thanks for the update. Yeah, makes me feel like I made the right decision to just get the car out of their hair.

kraken I asked for the car to be shipped from the PCD up to my purchasing dealer in NJ (thought it would be easier to just cancel PCD altogether). Unfortunately, that part is also very slow moving and the car is still in SC.
Do you have a date confirmed for PCD? Hopefully things are getting somewhat back to normal down there.

Did they give you ETA though? My car..... Not yet, still waiting for PCD to confirm I guess, but at least it's assigned to carrier as of today so it should be at PC sometime this week I hope... Last edited by kraken; 10-07-2024 at 01:23 PM.. |

By far the biggest difficulty with order a custom spec car is the shipping logistics. My vehicle was finished being produced at the factory on July 22nd (or July 29th) and the waiting since then has been quite the journey. Waiting 10 weeks to get exactly what you want for the next 10+ years (hopefully), seems like nothing in the long run but jeez is it difficult while you are waiting on it. I keep coming back to "you can never predict what destruction mother nature will bring", so I know it's not anyone's fault. Just difficult experiencing every step of the logistics journey has been painfully slow. My car took nearly 1 full month waiting to get on a boat in Mexcio, then slow boat ride, then nearly a week to be processed in Brunswick, GA, then the extra time to go PDC & get scheduled there, then Hurricane Helene, then nearly another week of no response from the trucking company. The car company that can figure out custom build options with less than 2 weeks delivery will become quite the popular car company.....

I hear your frustration, you waited longer than me.... I ordered in July, production was mid Aug. so it got to Brunswick quick, just the hold at port was frustrating and mysterious. My car tracking is now showing in transit so I guess just wait for PC to make appointment. It's weird they didn't make schedule yet, but I'm sure the Hurricane had something to do with it. |

kraken Yeah, I think things are really chaotic down there still and from the sounds of it there are very people who actually work down there, so there is LOTS landing on that small crew of people right now.
I kind of honestly want to reach out to BMW NA and ask "what resources have you diverted to SC to help them get back in business 100%"?

Unexpectedly today, just as I was about to cancel all of my flight and hotel plans to avoid cancellation charges, PCD informed me that they have restored operations and are back to "normal". So I can still have a full PCD experience this Friday.
Of course, now I have to worry about Hurricane Milton. If it tracks as expected, my flight on Thursday mid-afternoon should be fine and I can be at PCD at 8am on Friday. I have booked a fully refundable back up flight on a different airline for later in the day in Thursday, just in case more time is needed for Milton to clear Florida. BUT just so you know, if I can't get a flight this week, PCD has assured me they will allow me to come pick up the car at any time - I just won't be able to have the whole PCD experience. That's fine for me at this point. Honestly, I just want my new X6! Hope everyone dealing with PCD gets it done. Seth has been amazing in my experience so far. And they are dealing with a lot up there.

mattinfll that’s great news that things are getting back to normal. I’m super worried for everyone down in FL and up from there with Milton. Fingers crossed it somehow loses intensity.
Yeah, Seth offered me the same option to come pick up the car anytime. It was a difficult choice last week if I should have just kept my flights and gone down to get my car. Honestly, it felt like I would be an impudence in that area (did they really need any “tourists” flying in while trying to restore power everywhere?). So, I chose to ask them to ship the vehicle. Wish you good luck avoiding hurricanes and getting your new vehicle!

Actually, just did a post about my amazing delivery experience yesterday. Everything up and running, although the factory tour is a glimpse rather than a full tour into the assembly hall, but that's because of new construction, not the hurricane. I did the full tour in 2010 - this was totally fine.
And this part of SC did not get devastated, and everyone is in good spirits. I am driving back to Florida, so I have not experienced any problems yet. I am in Savannah tonight. Maybe on Sunday I will experience some slowdowns as I go through central Florida. I am filling up here in Georgia, which will give me enough gas to get home no matter what. Also, yes, Fridays are the most popular day and they are full up right now.
