Ugly New LCI (25) Dashboard Air Vents - Swapping Back to Pre LIC (23/24)

Hi All,

I've missed out on the last of the 24 year model (pre-LCI) M2. And now only have the option of buying a the new 25 year model - I want to buy new. BUT I absolutely hate the look of the 25 LCI dash air vents/ambient lighting. I think it just looks silly and cheap.

And so, I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to reverse this, and install the pre-LCI air vents and center dash piece surrounding it on the new year model? This would include the whole carbon strip surround I am assuming, and also include swapping out the vents on both driver and front passenger side.

Does anyone know (a) if you can even buy these parts, (b) can they be swapped?

I've marked up pictures to make it clear what I am wanting to do. Any advice would be appreciated!

LOL

I’m 100% the opposite. I dislike all the silver in the pre-LCI cars and think the new design is much cleaner/classier.

Agree with you. Silver needs to go. It doesn't appear the dash/center console has changed any, so it should be a pretty simple swap.

Is it possible to get CF replacement vent surrounds for the MY25 dash?

Interesting! I don't mind the look of the carbon, it's just those silly little toggle air vent sticks...in my eye that looks cheap. But I suppose it's all subjective lol

I'm wondering how I would go about removing and installing the parts. I doubt BMW would do it for me...and then hoping it wouldn't affect the function of the vent.

The parts are probably just held in by clips. I removed the oem trim & vents on my wife's X3MC & it was just clips. Most likely the same on our cars.

I see that in 2025 model the passenger side has no door lock/unlock buttons (!!) Also I like the 2025 steering wheel better, because it is more skeletonized and therefore feels lighter/sportier.

The only thing I really notice or care about in the 2025 is the steering wheel and really want that upgrade in my 2024. All the other little things I am indifferent on and would be fine with either.

So the passenger is at the mercy of the driver to get out? That’s not good.

Just a missing graphic in the render. The actual 2025 M2 and 240 both have passenger lock/unlock buttons.

To remove the dash trim, you need to remove the screen. It's not hugely complicated, but a job with a couple points that you need to be careful with. It should be the same as changing the trim on a '23 or '24. I can't imagine BMW re-cast or re-tooled the dash to fit the new vents. I bet they're a 1:1 fit, but the only thing that may be different is the location of the connector for the ambient lighting. The cable running from the dash to the connector may not be the right length depending how they changed it.

I don't mind my "pre-LCI" dash for the looks, but I do want to take it out at some point so I can insulate and add felt to the joined plastic surfaces. Mine makes so many ticks and clicks, drives me nuts. If it wasn't for having the remove the screen, I would have done it already.

The wife's new 2025 i4 M50 has that steering wheel. I do like it more than ours.

Cool car. Is it a bit faster than your M2?

Without a doubt 0 - 60 is and the 1/4 mile just barely. The AWD makes all the difference. I did some 0 - 60 runs with Dragy in a 2024 loaner and in Sport Boost ( no LC used ) it ran 3.52 whereas my M2 best is 3.85 traction limited. Using LC was virtually identical times.

As for the 1/4 mile I've watched the M50 Dragy videos 11.6 @ 121 and 11.7 @ 120 whereas my best in Mexico has been 11.73 @ 124

AndAWD M2 would be a beast! But as it is my M2 with 295/30/20 A/S tires has trouble hooking which is killing my 0-60 and thus my 1/4 time.

The M2 is much more fun and engaging to drive. But the M50 is very smooth, quiet and fast. Oh, and the M50 H&K audio is night and day better than the M2.

I will frumroll her in Mexico though and I'm sure I'll beat her then 🤣

I heard there are some nice open driving areas in Mexico to experiment. No doubt the AWD M2 is going to be ridiculous. If I had leased my current M2 I'd consider swapping it out for the AWD in a couple years.

I already told the wife to be prepared for that lol.

I would bet money that within weeks of taking delivery of the car, your passionate hatred for the vent control knobs would slowly fade to indifference.

This would be great if someone made an analog replacement so the screen didn't need to go back lol!
