What are your doubts? These cars are very capable of handling turbo upgrades.
In my opinion traction will be our biggest challenge when making over 600hp and torque on these cars. |

lots of people upgraded their turbos, this is an excellent platform to do that as it can handle a lot more power than stock

i recommend you check with your tuner on what kind of power they can offer you with the current setup and whether the upgrades would be beneficial.

You can't make too much more power on stock transmission. Even with my tune, my daily flex fuel map was 760whp and 640wtq. My kill map was 780whp 760wtq, but that map was only for gears 1-6. 7th or 8th would have bent a rod as per my tuner. Considering trying to go DI only and do hybrids on my new G87 just to see what we can get out of that kind of setup. PI can be a pain sometimes. |

You say there's no support but how many companies are actually building autos? Two? There aren't a bunch of threads in this forum but there are some in the G80/82 forums. Agreed about choosing the wrong platform for big power. The G87 isn't it auto or not. Not until there's xdrive. Or you set the car up specifically for rwd drag Last edited by curtdragon; 10-21-2024 at 10:15 PM.. |

This is exactly what my last G87 was for, and what my next one will be for. My friends and I build these cars and race them.
Show me a manual G8x car that runs low 9s consistently and I'll accept your assertion. A few anecdotal examples doesn't mean anything. My G87 on kill would send 760 ft/lbs of torque to two 315 radials through a stock transmission. Does this mean it's safe to do this and it's a good idea? Absolutely not. My friend with a single turbo manual G87 would agree with me as well. You could be right longitudinally, but as of right now the sample size is small. I consistently hear from people I know who have high hp manual G8x cars, auto is better and safer (and faster) if you plan to turn it up and go fast. |

Manual should be as capable of big power with a clutch upgrade. Quite a few G80 manuals out there with upgraded turbos, etc. personally I would rather have a 600 whp manual than an 800 whp auto. I don’t street race or drag race so not looking for numbers really. The only exception I could make is being convinced of forgoing manual for an Xdrive for all season driving and traction. Whether auto or manual, limited factor is traction with RWD unless you want to drive around on drag radials and then the car doesn’t handle great and can’t go in rain.
If BMW ever made an S58 manual Xdrive M car, it would be the ultimate |
