Hey, I've been following your advice for some time now and actually bought a visual ice enclosure based on your recommendation it just came in the mail after a few months! I am a total noob with car audio, I have a 24' G80 and was looking to copy your setup for my car as well. So it just involves the JL Audio 10W3-2, Kenwood Excelon X802-5 5 Channel Amp (which supplies power just to the sub and underseat subs right?), and the Technic PNP harness?
Also for the TechnicPNP harness, did you just get the Top Hifi (Option 688) Add a sub harness (Booster T-Sub Harness/LOC150i)? Is the add an amp harness necessary for this configuration you listed or would that only be necessary to purchase if trying to replace the factory HK amp to the main speakers such as for the AlphaOne amp upgrade? What did you end up doing to mount the actual enclosure from visual ice? I appreciate your advice! |

I was considering Bavsound as well but as people have pointed out, underseat subs can never compete with a trunk enclosure due to physics and the lack of volume to produce that deep bass. Having a Model Y & also used to have a GTI with a 10" powered sub years ago and I knew the underseat sub upgrade would be marginal/unnoticeable since it wouldn't come close to the bass I felt in those two cars. Hopefully you end up enjoying the subs if you go that route! Everyone has a different preference for sure, its why I am also debating if spending 1400$ for the AlphaOne amp upgrade would even be worth it or if it would be a marginal improvement and maybe all I need is the bass response from the sub. One thing at a time is def the way to do it. |

Thanks for your reply! Do you know if its better to get an amp just for the sub and underseat sub or a more expensive amp that can handle all subs + speakers? Or should a sub always have a dedicated amp?

If you are an audiophile and you want to beef up the entire system than go ahead and get an amp that can power all the speakers but be mindful of the size of that kind of amp and where you plan to mount it. This will also be more technical install You can also get the alpha one amp and that has a rca for an sub amp Doesn’t matter if u have a dedicated amp for sub. The jl audio 10w3v2 is 500 rms at 2 ohm so as long as you send that much power to the sub it doesn’t matter if its dedicated amp or not

There is never ending limitless setups you can do but what I did is the most budget friendly to add more bass. Depending on the music you listen to you will need to play with the crossovers and LPF and HPF on the kenwood amp.

I need to complete my full car sound deadening before investing anything into the audio. This car needs some serious help in getting rid of the giant timpani drum sound. I’ve got parts done, lots more to do.
