Intakes Overpriced?!
Is it me or are the intake systems that arent carbon overpriced? $700-$900? Mainly the silicone ones that cost $900! Ok so you had a company custom make u the silicone tubes. And pay maybe $20-35 a filter? That's crazy. I can buy 4 ply 3.5" silicone off Amazon plus the filters, lets say K&N for example, for maybe $150 tops. Some elbows, couplers, straights, 45's, clamps, and filters and ur done. And silicone is the best way to go because the aluminum heat soak when ur not moving. So say ur staging and the aluminum pipes are getting hot AF, now ur air is hot and totally defeats the purpose of the system. So while moving is the only way they work efficiently AFTER the pipes are cooled down because the air that is supposed to be cool is now cooling off the pipes when flowing. So silicone is the way to go. I'm def gunna try to custom make a 3.5" system that should only take me a few hours with cutting and clamping and will be a front mount. $900 down to $150. This M tax is getting out of hand. If successful I will share the schematics on how to DIY and save $700. And if anyone says that the aluminum ones dont heat soak, its BS. It common sense and knowledge. The turbos are connected to the aluminum pipes and the heat from the turbos soak to the intake pipes. OEM has it the right way. They use high temp plastic or whatever it is. Maybe if there was a silicone coupler that connects the turbo to the tubes and the tubes dont touch the turbos, then maybe that will not be as bad but the temps inside the engine bay are hot anyway so the aluminum soaks that heat up as well

Saw them yesterday. Yes affordable. For 2 filters and 2 small hoses and clamps. But the ones that are front mount or top mount are out of hand. Those are worth it. And I have seen a lot of people go with them because they are loud and get the job done. But am I the only one that thinks they are over priced?
The ARMS are 6 ply. Nice. Save the legwork and get them....most def

if you dont like the pricing of the expensive ones, you can get the the less expensive options. lots of brands that have a more reasonable pricing.
I can think of a few, MAD, ARM, BMS,etc..

AFE has a kit out. They claim 13hp and 16 ft/lbs at 4300rpm. A lot of these gains are from the filter...

Is there really a significant performance advantage for these full intakes vs drop in BMC filters? It seems most feel the filter is doing the heavy lifting here.

If your motor is not tuned, BMC drop in with charcoal removed is best power and $$ savings combo. If tuned (ecu tune, not piggyback), then the Eventuri is best as long as car is custom tuned for it |

if your goal is only the added power, the BMC filters will get most of the job done so there is no need to buy a full intake. if you want a better sound and look on top of the power increase, you will need to get an intake.

"Custom tuned for an intake" lmao.
Only thing that matters for upgrading the intake is if you run more boost you need more airflow. The type of tune you have does not matter.

Yes yes, the mechanical engineer specializing in thermal fluids totally clueless. You are the one who made a completely ridiculous claim that one must be tuned for an intake.
Intake is just an input to the engine system, it can only provide enough air or not enough, ambient air or hotter than ambient. That's it. There's literally nothing else to it.

Without a MAF, there’s little to adjust for, which is a big plus since F-body cars often had rough idles and occasional CELs from intakes.
On a stock tune, high-quality filters and charcoal filter removal can provide similar HP gains to a full intake. The primary benefits of an aftermarket intake are the aesthetic boost and sound enhancement both of which are hard to replicate without the intake system itself.

People get cold air intakes for the sound. It is a little pricey, but I'd say the value is subjective.
On a side note, I can only hear the intake sound on the right side. Is that normal? I have the BMC top mount intake.
