Window Tint Or Not?

I’ve tinted every prior sports car I’ve ever had but for some reason I’m debating if I should tint my 2025 M2. Love the interior look so much, the new red trim, the flat bottom steering wheel etc. Kind of want to share that beautiful interior with folks walking by, ha. So yea, not sure if I’ll tint at my usual 35% or go lighter or none at all.

Also, curious what folks are paying for ceramic tint these days?

Thanks!

What’s the “some” reason?

Believe it or not, most folks don’t give a shit about your beautiful interior.

35% around with 50 windshield is our preference for perfect balance of looks, function, and privacy. you can still see the highlights of the inside but it is still blacked in a lot of light. 5-700 for good ceramic tint (and experienced installer) with windshield (xpel xr, 3m ceramic, llumar, etc)

since this thread is useless without pics here are a few. We went darker on the M2 to see what it would be like. this is 20 around with 50 on windshield. would probably go back to 35 around and 50 windshield on the next one especially with buckets. this is an overcast day.

Thanks. Will a good tint last lifetime of the car? I’ve never kept one longer than 5yrs or so but kinda want to keep this M2 for as long as possible. Any chance there is long term degradation of the rear defroster.. like if the tint is replaced or removed in 10yrs at end of lifespan of the tint would it destroy rear defroster lines?

I always tint everything but the windshield on my daily drivers. Went with a nice ceramic coat 30%.

to be honest, we have never had a car much longer than 6 years. always have used, 3m, llumar, or xpel tint. never had an issue with any of them peeling, purpling etc. good tint should last, but like anything else, a lot of variables, location, garage, etc.

100% you should tint the M2. Looks way better in my opinion. You can leave the windshield untouched but even tinting that looks cool. I went with windshield tint but lost it when I had to replace my windshield so there is that scenario to consider. I can do it again but I will have to pay for it again. Check you state's laws and make sure your insurance knows that you have added tint for coverage purposes. My PPF and side and rear window tinting are covered, but not my windshield since it isn't legal to tint windshields in MN.

I’m about to get my car back from full PPF and a pretty aggressive tint job. I’ll post some pics here.

there are a lot of new tint film options these days and the new hype is IR ratings. reduction of heat inside the car not just uv. i went with the highest Xpel film and after my long time customer discount i was like 600 for all windows beside windshield. i could of swore this was max 400 bucks back in the day for such a small car

this was discussed in previous post but for some reason the tint looks much darker on the m2. my assumption is the small windows. i have gone 20-25% on every car and have been more than happy. did 22% and it’s really dark. i would suggest going with something in the 30% if tint is illegal in your state

i live in sunny California and tint does make the car look better but with black interior and small windows it’s not a huge difference with or without. i did it cause my face and arm felt like they were on fire without in hot summer days

ceramic tint, 35% all around. paid $300. would highly recommend it especially if you are like me and can get a sunburn in the summer through regular tints (true story. not a vampire, just north sea heritage)

Why would the windshield be a stronger tint than the rest of the car? I would think the opposite.

In the past I would always leave the windshield as-is, even.

Here is 50% Suntek Evolve on everything but the windshield. With the smartphone cameras HDR and automatic settings it's hard to get an accurate baseline on how dark tint actually is in person.

If your car is parked outside, getting tint to protect the interior materials is always a good choice. I wanted something very light because I do not think I needed more visible light rejection where I drive.

The heat rejection on the newest ceramic tints are really impressive. My preferred cabin temperature is at least 4 degrees warmer after the tint was installed. I will say the Suntek color is a little blue compared to the Llumar ceramic tint I had applied to my mk7 Golf in 2015, which was the more traditional black tint.

It's not just for looks. Tint is also very functional. Especially in hotter climates like the desert here. Quality film with high IR / UV rejection is a must to help with the sun heat, glare etc. Levels are preference, but have found 70 on the windshield is the sweet spot. Provides the function without being problematic. Anywhere from 15-25 the rest of the way around. This is 15 / 70 for example.

Problem with us in NY, the tint law suck.... cannot go lower than 70% which is stupid. I have tinted all my cars in the past, but have not tinted the X3 and may not tint the M240. I don't want to be looking for places that will pass me when the time comes lol
