HUD drift / movement

Not quite sure if this is real or my imagination but I think my HUD may be on the move.

I have the vertical adjustment currently at +6. I’m sure I’ve adjusted it over the past 6 months from +4. Any lower and the bottom gets cut off the display area. If it was at 0, the whole HUD is below the display area.

Car due for service in December so I’ll get it checked then but posting in case others have similar experience.

I think I have a similar issue. I was recently adjusting the height and found that the bottom of it was getting cut off when it was at I believe 0. Granted, Im not the tellest person in the world so i attributed it to that and bumped it up a few notches.

I’ve noticed weird behavior like this a couple times. I have it set to +3 or 4.

I eventually notice it’s being cutoff at the bottom. I go into the display settings and it’s back at 0 offset. I raise it back up. At some point in the future, it ends up back at 0.

Is this what you’re seeing? Or are you seeing that you have to keep raising it higher and higher. I attributed this to me using my other FOB briefly, like to unlike the car and it getting changed to the profile of the other FOB. Then when you open/start the car with the usual FOB, it doesn’t change it back to the other saved setting.

No mine I have to raise higher, it doesn’t revert to zero.
It’s been stable for the last few months.

I've recently started experiencing this phenomenon--just assumed I've been hallucinating. I set it initially at ~200 miles. I'm now at 1,500, post the run-in service, and have suddenly found myself adjusting the height to keep it elevated above the projection's cutoff.

I've hypotheized that my posture may be the factor creating the impression that the HUD is, IDK, sinking on its own. So, I adjusted my seating position instead--but to no avail. Repositioning was a bit too awkward, anyway. Still, the HUD still seems to sink.

I'm prone to user error--usually my first guess with things like this.

Yeah, as I mostly noticed this in the evenings; my first guess was I was shrinking a just enough over the day for this phenomenon to occur.
I now think the whole hud is a too high and has moved.

Ha, I suppose I could be shrinking.

It does seem too high...agree, more noticeable/disruptive at night.

Seat position, height and posture all impact the angle created between your eyes, the windshield and the projection screen on the dash. It's highly unlikely the the projector itself is moving and almost certainly isn't moving between different positions at different times of the day. It's you and the position of your eyes that is changing.

Obviously BMW can't program the 0 position to be perfect for all different drivers, that's why it's adjustable just like every other HUD I've experienced.

Adjust it so that it just starts getting cut off at the top and note the setting. Then do the same for when it just starts getting cut off at the bottom. Set it right in the middle of those two settings. Then it should likely remain fully visible even with normal variations of eye position. If it's getting cut off then something about your position is likely changing more than you think it is.

Nope. It’s not that.
I’ve had several BMWs with HUDs. None have moved and none had to be sitting this high on the screen to be seen.
On the zero, it is cut off well below the coated area on the screen.

Perhaps it was not installed properly in the dash from the factory. I still doubt that it’s moving and drifting as you called it. Going from +4 to +6 is not a major adjustment and could easily be needed with a small seating position change. I get all you are saying but that’s not the issue.
Only I drive my car and the seat never moves. Same as all the other BMs I’ve had. I can accept my posture changes over the day but that doesn’t explain why a setting of say +4 is fine for several months then the hud has to be moved up again and say +6 becomes the norm.
At the zero setting, regardless of your eye line the HUD is now below the reflective area on the screen. Something is drifting over (a long) time.

It’s been fine for a while - since I started this thread.

Just a follow up... taking mine into the dealership. My HUD is at the highest height setting but I have to stand up in the seat to see it. Was floating but still visible on a recent 600mi road trip. This morning, the setting was at the max height (I didn't set it there) but the display is sunk way below eye-sight level. My normal height setting is 2 or 3.
