Weird NVH from Rogue SSK
I just installed a Rogue SSK and Rogue rear carrier bushing — will do a separate post on how awesome they are along with a CDV delete and clutch stop — but there's one thing about which I am unsure.
I expected NVH to increase, and honestly it is not bad: No vibration and just a small increase in engine/transmission noise. Except there is a very weird noise only in the odd gears (worst in 5th) that sounds like static, for lack of a better descriptor. It is barely audible but with music off and the exhaust flaps closed there's what sounds like static from mis-wired speakers. I only hear it at speed and it goes away as soon as I engage the clutch. I am 90% sure it is just the expected transmission whine but it isn't a sound I've ever heard before. Any ideas? |

Before anyone asks, I tried to record it, but it is barely audible and not perceptible in the recording over road noise.
Speaker static is the best description. As I originally wrote, I am almost sure it is just increased transmission whine from the SSK or rear carrier bushing, but it is weird it is only in some gears and the sound is close enough to what I imagine some horror happening inside my gearbox might sound like so wanted to ask the brilliant minds of this forum what they think. |

Just went for a long drive and I think this is just the expected NVH increase from the rear carrier bushing and/or SSK.
I hear it in third and fifth only (not all odd gears as originally reported). I can also just barely make it out when idle and I put the car in fifth (with the clutch in of course). Very likely just increased tranny/synchro noise being transmitted to the cabin although not exactly sure what it is if I can hear it all the time and not just on shift. Since you can barely hear it, I'd rate the NVH increase as surprisingly low. |
