Dinan turbo inlet + MST intake, or no turbo inlet

I am looking to swap out my MST turbo inlet for a Dinan turbo inlet. Has anyone mixed and matched intake parts from different manufactuers in the past without issue? Dinan markets the inlet as OEM replacement, and the intake pipe portion of the MST intake connects to the factory turbo inlet, so it should work, right?

Taking a step back, has anyone heard an MST with and without the turbo inlet? Is it even worth having the turbo inlet?

Turbo inlet makes no difference in sound or performance. Honestly I wouldn’t bother.

I’ve had a dinan intake with their turbo inlet

Full mst intake with their inlet, mst with stock inlet

Could never tell any difference whatsoever between stock and aftermarket inlets.

I got rid of the dinan inlet years ago when I saw that the carbon fiber was just attached with glue to the part that connects to the turbo. Really didn’t trust it and then about 4 months later dinan had a recall on them as the glue wasn’t holding up and separating.

The MST intake pipe that comes with the inlet I assume is the same pipe as the non-inlet version? Meaning I can just swap out inlets and continue business as usual?

The nub on the factory inlet looks pretty small, any issues with getting the MST to get a good bite on it? The MST isnt the best fitting intake , so i feel like there is always some amount of force exerted on the connection point.

The mst hose/pipe/whatever that goes from the intake to the turbo fits like absolute garbage. I would not suggest it to anyone.

Yeah it sounds great, thats all its got. I am now considering something i wont need to worry about and have to check on, like the burger motorsports or dinan variant. What the most up to date consensus on the best of fitment and noise?

Of course i can’t find my stock turbo inlet. Does anyone know the part #

Edit: I think I found it, 13-71-8-656-983, its $250. Has anyone had luck with Dinans inlet?

I did the Dinan CAI, exhaust and turbo inlet pipe at the same time with a Berger oil catch can.

Dinan fitment is great. Takes about 5 minutes to install.

Like I said I’ve had the dinan and mst and I’m back to stock with drop in filter. I got a bit sick of the raceboi noises but overall the car felt better with the stock intake. Throttle response was definitely the best with stock intake.

I am back to stock inlet and stock intake. I plan to reuse the MST intake but i do not have a silicone coupler/tube to connect the MST intake pipe to the stock turbo inlet. Does anyone know the OD of the factory turbo inlet — the side heading up to the intake?

The stock inlet needs a 4” coupler, so anyone looking to ditch their MST turbo inlet but continue to use the MST intake with stock inlet, you need a 4” to 4” ID coupler, 3” in length.

Haven’t checked it yet. Changed the oil at 2k and put on after that. About 500 miles from my 5k oil change and will check then.

A little piece of mind though.

I will post pics if it catches anything on low mileage.

After driving with the stock inlet for a while now I found that the MST turbo inlet did nothing for sound, it sounds exactly the same with the stock inlet…so if anyone is considering an inlet for sound only then don’t bother.

I went with the MST intake and decided against the inlet. Didn't seem worth it to spend extra money for basically no difference in performance or sound.

Yeah.. at the time when i bought it my goal was to get maximum sound and there were no reviews/feedback available on how effective it was so i went for it. The mounting setup is the problem, if it mounted like the OEM like the Dinan inlet does I’d keep it for whatever potential air flow efficiency.
