Isn't this the same kid that lost control on the drag strip and totaled his last M240i a few months back? Too bad for the loss, but racing on the street is illegal for a reason.

Yep. Same exact person. Close to a 180 mph on regular roads is crazy

It's good that he took himself out without taking a non-willing participant with him. I'm all about exploring the edges of the envelope, but not when it endangers others.

Race was on an unofficially closed off road, and the two racers were racing for $20k

Not it any way condoning the race but it certainly was not the same as doing 180mph on a normal highway.

From all accounts, there was traffic and there were onlookers.

This should have been done at a racetrack - PERIOD. These types of races happen all over the US all the time but this time the guy brought what is basically a drag car. Check out the parachute affixed to the rear of his car. How many street cars have you seen with one of those?

I like that he was pushing the envelope of our car but as the old saying goes "Street racing is not drag racing".

I read there was no traffic, and the video of the crash there was no other cars around. Could be wrong IDK.

As far as people who decided to stand on the side of the highway to watch an illegal street race, that is their choice to make.

Again, I didnt say it was a good idea but parroting around quips talking about this like it was just a race down an open road is not a correct cahracterization of what happened.
