My DW went to the organic pet store a few weeks ago, and got some "nose butter" for OCD psycho dog. I assume that it is some kind of moisturizer, but it apparently also contains peppermint oil. When she puts it on his nose, the peppermint must overwhelm his sense of smell because he stops going OCD trying to snort out some imaginary critter hiding under the couch in our living room.....

Just got back from being out of the country. You'd think these turds would be a little more excited to see us.

As far as cats go, I'd guess that one to be quite excited to see you. Its looking at you (without malice) and is attentive in posture.

The dog on the other hand - I think he's pissed at you for leaving and he's studiously ignoring you so you understand his feelings and are more empathetic to them in the future.

So. We took our Mark-I college student niece to "CatFest" here in Denver today just for something to do.

We were *not* expecting or planning to get kittens.

So, we got two kittens.

Say hello to Piper & Bailey.

Two brothers from one of the 20+ Rescue organizations that were at the show.

They're all-around cute as hell.

Max (our orthotic-wearing-because-he-tore-his-Achilles-Tendon 14-year old) ADORES them. Ten seconds in, and he's in love-- he's been trying to be a Cat Dad and mentor them and is already grooming them.

Boo (our 9-year old) is a grumpy bastard at the best of times and is is NOT best pleased (whatever you do, do *not* attempt to pick him up). The Minister of War & Finance even tried to give him brushes and pets in his box in front of the fire-- there were hisses and growls and he generally let us know that he's upset that he wasn't consulted on this decision. He's VERY unimpressed with the new additions to the family.

But, we'll get there eventually. The kittens are in the guest room upstairs for a fair while, and Boo more or less lives downstairs, so we'll integrate slowly.

R.

We've had the terrorists for two weeks as of today, so time for an update.

Honestly? They're pretty damn awesome. And surprisingly well-behaved (although they lose their tiny little minds over wet kitten food.)

Max (the 14-year old orthotic-wearing one) freaking **adores** them (and vice versa).

Boo (the 9-year old) is coming along nicely. We got him a Feelaway pheromone collar and the only thing I can say is "WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW ABOUT THESE EIGHT YEARS AGO???" He's sort of becoming a completely different cat-- almost no hisses or growls, he's showing his belly for pets, and is purring his brains out when he's petted or brushed.

Anyhow, here are a few pics, because who doesn't like kitten pics?

R.

PS: The final picture? That's Max, Piper and Bailey reading the news with me in bed with purrs all around. It was a pretty good start to the morning.

Those kittens are dreamy. My fav of yours is Max. Ours was 2 (or 4) years old, as told by our shelter representative when we adopted her. She is now either 12 or 14. Matters not, we will love her till the end.

PS - I think you said Max is 14 so possibly the same age as our girl.

LOL -- that's what we call our two male kittens as well... I keep telling my wife we should've gotten females.

^ I have a female and even though she's a senior now she can still be a little furry monster who tears through the house attacking any unsuspecting dust-bunny or bug or piece of string or anything that moves. She's also been known to scratch and bite her humans if they catch her in a bad mood. The males that I've had have been the gentler and cuddlier of the two sexes. Of course I always get either sex 'fixed' which calms them down a bit.

Well - the fluff ball turned 3. Little party for them with treats...even the kitty was part of it.

Good times...yes, good times.

Maybe give this a shot?

It's done a pretty radical turnaround on Boo. He's normally a grumblebunny (with the occasional growl), but the collar has done *amazing* things. Now? We're at the "purr purr purr" stage and flipping over to get his belly pet.

Might be worth a couple bucks to see if it helps-- it took about a week for it to take effect.

R.

They make plug-in aromizers for this too. Not sure they did anything major for our girls, but we keep one running. I hear mixed results (some get super results, some not so much, probably like catnip). They are a regular go-to in the feral-rescue community around here.

Boo is reliving his kittenhood.

He played in this tube when he was a kitten, and I'd given it to my mother when she got her two kittens.

Since then, it's been sitting up in a box in my father's garage.

I brought it home last week, and Boo's been more or less living in it.
