You can buy those same parts from online dealers for many times hundreds less (depending on the part). Perhaps you should take your own advice and learn something as well.
It has nothing to do with caring how you, or anyone else spends their money, but is providing information that many don't know about. How many threads are posted by people asking where to buy parts? *for example, you mention you didn't want to pay $2300 for cf mirror caps. You can buy those same M Performance cf mirror caps for $1,740. Why pay $600 more when you don't have to?

Re: my car, I've installed the M Performance Alcantara armrest, M Performance carbon fiber door sills, a TRE carbon fiber rear spoiler, CSL grilles from AutoID, and a custom carbon fiber & Alcantara steering wheel. So what cheap shit from Alibaba have I installed * I forgot my genuine BMW M door pins & genuine BMW M door projectors.

Re: M Performance parts warranty, not sure to what you're referring about me being "completely wrong", but M Performance parts carry a 2 year warranty regardless of who installs them - that's straight from BMW.
Personally, I am going the route of aftermarket this time with the G87 after I optioned nearly $10k in genuine parts for my G82 then seeing aftermarket parts looking very very close in quality afterwards. However, there is an argument to be made for residualizing these parts on leased vehicles. Cash buyers might even get to recoup some out of pocket when it comes time to sell the car and advertise the parts as original factory/port installed. There is some value to that.

As far as quality, I'm starting to see some clear coat imperfections on my M Performance Carbon Fiber Flow Through wing on my G82. It's very hard to notice, but at $3k it should be close to perfect in a garage parked car with only 15k miles on it. Perhaps a proper clear coat restoration would solve it.

A stick on spoiler is one thing, but if someone were going to get a bolt on wing for the M2, drilling into your trunk isn't for the faint of heart, and having the port do it does give a sense of confidence that they are doing it right or that if they mess up, the trunk will be replaced before you even take delivery.

Obviously went over your head. Many people don't know (as evidenced on this forum) that you can buy BMW parts/accessories much cheaper than from your dealer or paying markup having them port-installed. Forums are about sharing information. If one loads up on port-installed MPerformance parts, they objectively over-paid, by definition. That's not a judgement just a mathematical fact. The individual who got butthurt by my comment stated he "still couldn't stomach the $2800 for carbon fiber mirror caps" - and rightfully so. If he want's the M Performance cf mirror caps, he can order them for $1742. See he can save overpaying by over $1k for the same part

Re: my car, since you made an accusation about where I buy my parts, quoted from above "I've installed the M Performance Alcantara armrest, M Performance carbon fiber door sills, a TRE carbon fiber rear spoiler, CSL grilles from AutoID, and a custom carbon fiber & Alcantara steering wheel. So what cheap shit from Alibaba have I installed * I forgot my genuine BMW M door pins & genuine BMW M door projectors."

What parts did I buy from Alibaba again? I just didn't pay dealer markup on the genuine BMW M Performance parts I purchased.

OEM M Performance vs. Aftermarket

Whether you want to pay the extra price for OEM parts, is up to you, but there are advantages. Whether those are worth it to you or not, is your personal decision.

You get full factory warranty of 4yr/50,000 miles. Many aftermarket parts carry 1 year warranty at best typically, to something like 30 day warranty or no warranty at worst.

OEM CF parts resist fading. I have yet to see an aftermarket CF part that has been exposed to heat or sunshine not start yellowing in a year or two. OEM uses expensive Glasurit lacquer and they typically don't fade.

OEM parts fit. I have installed hundreds of aftermarket parts and it is very rare that there is not some pushing, pulling, stretching to make them fit at some point.

You can finance OEM parts with the vehicle. This is attractive to some people.

OEM parts retain better value on a vehicle. They all depreciate a lot, but OEM parts are more attractive to buyers of used vehicles when installed by the manufacturer or dealership with a warranty that carries over, than a myriad of aftermarket parts with no warranty, dubious installs and sometimes no receipts.

OEM parts have been tested. I know many aftermarket companies will claim they have tested parts, but those are usually through installs on a handful of customer cars and if there are no issues after a few months, they claim they have been tested. After a few years on hundreds of vehicles, the claim is more substantiated. But when you get a M Performance Spoiler you know it has undergone wind tunnel testing up to the maximum speed of the vehicle to ensure performance characteristics and stability have been met. They often times have upwards of a million miles on them in both hot conditions and sub freezing conditions. BMW is not going to create a spoiler that creates windflow problems or stability issues at higher speeds and risk the financial exposure when a car has issues. Most of the big aftermarket companies cannot afford that type of testing and are building things that are more cosmetic in nature only or that are attractive to some enthusiasts.

If you are looking for the absolute cheapest option or the option with the maximum performance potential, than yes, M Performance parts are probably not what you are looking for and since cheapest or highest performing is your key evaluator you may be seeing them as a waste of money.

But for many, they see a lot of value in the products, and as a result they purchase them from BMW.

I saw a g87 at MPACT with a carbon fiber front duct separating (by an inch or so) from the body. I didn’t ask the guy if it was M Performance or cheap junk but I did realize for my car, that’s getting fixed under warranty. I’m buying MPHAS and MP front ducts. Cause warranty and I always have $4k.

Hopefully not my car. Mine were OEM, as are the ones on my new car.

Any profile shots of this car? Does it have a massive side skirt or are the reflections playing tricks on me?
