The Four Things I Absolutely Would Not Purchase The M240i Without

After owning the car for about a year, if I had to do it all over again, I would order the car specifically with these 4 features :

In order of importance.

1) xDrive . This is what makes the car truly special. AWD launches in Sports + Mode are impressive. Not many vehicles on the road are going to be able to out launch the G42.

2) Do NOT order the car with runflat all season tires. Doing so will get you a permanent 123 MPH limited vehicle. You must order the car with the Performance Non-Runflat tires to get the 155 MPH limiter.

3) The upgraded stereo. Yes, the base model stereo is TERRIBLE. I almost immediately added a 12" subwoofer, upgraded door and dash speakers, and am using a music playing app with an equalizer, just to be minimally satisfied with the stereo now.

4) The upgraded headlights. I have the base model headlights with the little DRL, and every time I see a G42 or an M2 with the upgraded headlights , I kick myself for making the mistake.

Everything else I can live without. I love the car, and am having a great time modding it.

Current mods so far:

Eibach lowering springs
AA Catted downpipe
BMS Cold air intake
BSPK Forged Wheels
Carbon fiber exhaust tips
Black reflective side markers
25% ceramic tint

I agree except for number two as it relates to the speed limiter. I dont see myself driving at 123 MPH let alone 155 MPH.

I knew that was going to be the one questionable mention. I almost put a disclaimer for that one, lol.

And I get it, driving 120+ mph might seem ridiculous for many, but I don't want that limit for me personally.

And more often than not, people order their cars and are unaware of the limiter that comes with the run-flats.

Just the fact that they are runflats is the reason not to get them. Speedclimiter is a matter of taste.

Garage List
I tend to think of things when ordering based on what it would cost to add it later. As an example, the headlights would be a costly addition some options are impossible to add and so you just have to scrutinize them that way and be sure you are ok leaving it out.

Solid list, all well reasoned.

I have a feeling I wont even like the hk system compared to my ELS studio in my family suv. But it will be a slightly better starting point

I've heard people even mention they are not completely satisfied with the upgraded HK stereo. So I have no idea what I was thinking going with the base stereo.

I am by no means an audiophile, but I've driven company fleet vehicles that have better sound systems.

The first week I had the car, I was starting to notice that I was routinely listening to music at 90% volume. There is no reason you should ever have to turn your stereo up that much.

And as far as the headlights - even if I found a used set on Ebay or somewhere, I'm looking at about $1,600 to $2k. And I still don't have a definitive answer as to whether or not they can be programmed to a car that didn't originally come with the upgraded headlights.

I drove a 2023 (or '24) 430i convertible with a base stereo, which should be close to a M240i base stereo. I have HK myself. The base system is noticeably worse in all aspects - bass, clarity, volume, staging, etc. The HK system is far from an audiophile system, in fact I would only call it satisfactory. It's good enough that I don't feel I NEED to change it, but I wouldn't mind having better.

1 and 4 was standard when I bought so the options were few.

ZKT as the price was minimal as I had ordered the 893m wheels anyway. There are no speed restrictions below 155mph on UK cars.

HK hifi- you’d be daft not to given the price.

Black paint. Hides the awkward angles, no mismatched rockers or diffusers and looks cool AF.

Option everything and have no chance of regret is my mindset. The exception is stuff i am 110% sure i don’t want, like the M door cards and phone charger.

ZTK is a must have IMO

Yeah paint is personal preference. I would never buy a black, silver, or red car.

To Pentlands point, hiding the mismatched side skirts/rockers is a bonus of having a black G42

Don’t have to worry about that with the 2025+.

This car is plenty special without xDrive. I have no need for it.

I’m just the opposite. Didn’t tick that box.
