G87 at Summit Point (Z06, GT3 in session)
Hey Peeps,
Decided to take the G87 to Summit Point to see what she could do. Won my (SCCA Sport 1) class by 3/4 of a second over a 2022 GT4 (best of 1:20.6) and surprised myself with how good the vehicle is. OEM brakes/tires and the only 2 settings I had changed were DSC off and M mode on 5/10 along with Sport+ on suspension setting. The car handles really well (weighed in at 3960lbs with me in it) and goes like stink! With better Cup tires, this would be a weapon! Action at 6:30 second mark.... Cheers |

Nice laps! I get my G87 in a few days and I'll be hopefully on SP in a few weeks.

I thought that traction control, after DSC is turned off, is supposed to adjust the e-diff, and not do torque-vectoring via brakes. Is that not the case?

Wow, nice job!! I’m itching to try my hand at tracking this car, and summit point is where I thought of going. Looks like a really twisty, fun track!

It is moderately technical and difficulty track, and it is superbly fun. BMW CCA has a May event, come out It does not get as crowded as the session you see in the video.

Any other tracks in the area that are less technical (for a beginner)? |

The two clubs that have the best instructors, IMHO, and in no way discounting how good of a driver and instructor Lutfy is (I believe instructs with the SCCA and NASA), are the BMW CCA and the PCA. These two clubs take instructing to coaching level and do it seriously. The local BMW CCA, the NCC, this weekend had their beginners event at Summit Point Jefferson circuit, and the PCA had it last weekend. However, you can sign up to any event, and you won’t be disappointed. Edit: This is a good read --> https://www.nccbmwcca.org/2022/02/12/31925-2/

Duh.... looked on bottom right of video and saw what the app was.
Looks like simple solution... if it does lap times. Or may just do a Solo2 DL. |

This is a much simpler solution using Ram Mount, my IPhone and the BMW Drive Analyzer app. The OBD plug costs around $250 and does everything for me except lap times which I used the dash app to monitor. I liked the simplicity! Cheers. |

Some dicey, cluster-fuck, point-to-pass driving in there by others. Good for you for mixing it up. You’re a brave man. Was that the fast group or? Some cars/drivers didn’t belong in that group. Nice to see you and your M2 keep with the Z06. I don’t know what a good time is at that track, but you’d be a better driver than the Z06 driver to keep with that car. Are you on PS4s? If not what do you run? I’ll try to find your build page after I post this. I ask because my SA offered me their 2025 CS allocation and I’m curious atm. When I review posts on the forum, looks to be a lot of fiddle fucking with suspension and brakes. I’ve solved those issues in my current ride, except I’m stuck running slower Hankooks on the front for increased longevity. Surprised at the weight of the M2 though, even laden with driver. This car is supposed to far more nimble than its heavier M cousins, but 3950 is not that light, especially compared to that Z06 you were keeping with. Using a Catalyst? What run group was that? Hmmmm...I don't see anything dicey in OP's session. Point bys are required and were given quickly. We don't set run groups by car, they are by driver so you get Miatas and vettes. With clear track, the fast cars are sub 1:20. most all of those drivers know each other very well and they are good. I run with them every event. That was probably an advanced group session with a bunch of instructors mixed in. Last edited by M2M3M3; Yesterday at 07:31 AM.. |

You’ll like this car, the lap times are not consistent though (big heavy car with street tires etc). See you soon! |

It was my first time out in a street car after almost a decade of competition so I was positioning the car for passes (slow down then throttle up post apex). May be aggressive and I apologize but will get back to DE level. Car was stock including brake fluid, brakes, tires. |
