Swapping to is1500 pads, quote question
Hello,
I’m getting quotes to swap brake pads. Local tuner/race shop said $400, my local guy said 1 hour ($125) but mentioned new sensors. I trust my local guy but can’t answer the sensor question. Will he need me to buy new sensors? Car will have 250 miles on it. Cheers Rick in de also, anyone know Racers Edge in Newark? |

i installed them myself and if careful you do not need new sensors.
i didn’t have a lift or all the proper tools but i can’t see someone getting them all installed in an hour. if i had a lift i would say quickest would be 2 hours. you have the rear ebrake you have to deal with. if they have the program to deactivate and loosen piston it should be faster but that still takes time. took me around 4 hours i would highly recommend using a decent amount of caliper grease. i am getting noises or brake clunk. most forum members say no noise but i recently spoke to the Isweep dealer and Isweep acknowledges there is an issue and gave them a giant tube of a new grease formula to fix the problem. 15 mins a side is really pushing it. that doesn’t include getting the car on the lift. all minimal time but as you count 60 mins, you don’t have much left over. properly greasing the pads, greasing the calipers. minute here and there, re-torquing the bolts. reinstalling new sensor as they recommend. took me couple minutes to get the sensor back in.
if you do go with the local shop i would love to see a video of fast they are working. i can only envision a F1 pitstop event just doesn’t seem reasonable for an hour especially as the next shop is quoting a lot more time. my local shops are quoting a couple hours also |

You don't need to replace the sensors, and I installed all 4 in my garage in under an hour - no lift. The rear parking brake can be retracted manually with a torx bit, it's really not that difficult.

I’ll figure it out by end of summer, hopefully doing my first HPDE early fall. Gotta do shit yourself to keep the costs down right. My goal is to learn brake fluid, pads, oil/filter etc after I have the car for a bit.

Just throwing this out there. But it’s been mentioned the 1500’s are not ideal for track use at all. A few m3 owners who used 1500’s said that they did not do well in track or auto cross events.
I would not use 1500’s for anything but daily driving.
