Does anyone else feel bothered from the mismatch break calipers when you compare the nice front Brembo calipers to the rear Nissan looking calipers? I would like to upgrade to have them look more similar

BMW redesigned the parking brake which use to be a drum style brake housed in the rear rotor. That's why the rear on Gx chassis doesn't have fixed calipers like the front anymore, instead it's a single floating caliper which has the redesigned parking brake integrated into it. As a cost cutting measure, they just painted a floating caliper setup the same color as the front brakes, so they don't show the raw iron and become rusty after a few years instead of developing new fixed calipers to accommodate the new parking brake design.

Actually the eBrake with the drum, shows,, motor and cables are a nightmare.

Don't know, just that they switch to an electronic parking brake (EPS) which doesn't have the brake drum mechanism like the old parking brake. The EPS system electronically clamps the existing rear brake pads instead of relying on another brake in the rotor. For most this isn't an issue aside from aesthetics but for anyone that really drives their car to the limit it's problematic in that the single piston floating caliper does not apply pressure as evenly as static calipers, it's also smaller in size and made of cast iron which means it's more prone to heat soaking quicker than a larger caliper with muultiple pistons and made of aluminum. Lastly you can't just pull pins and replace the pads like you could on the F8x chassis, the entire rear caliper needs to come off. Real PIA if you track your car and need to swap pads. You also need to tell the car to retract the parking brake with ISTA or some other device to remove the caliper.

You can very easily manually retract the parking brake with a torx bit. You don't need ISTA. 13mm socket (iirc) and 17mm wrench to remove the caliper bolts. Just a couple more steps to remove the rear vs the front calipers to swap pads, but it's still fairly simple.

Yes, overall less caliper removal effort for the rears than the fronts with just the 2 sliding pin bolts to remove, compared with the 2 radial nuts and 2 pins on the front.

I just bought a Foxwell NT710 maintenance tablet for our Macan that is out of warranty in March, will also buy the BMW module for it. It only takes a few seconds to retract the pads on the Macan with it, as opposed to removing the EPB motor to turn the lead screw with a bit to manually retract the pads.

Yes indeed fellas. I wish there was a better looking 2-piston rear Brembo caliper like BMW put on the FXX cars.

These are a big hit with the Base Corvette owner crowd who don't have the Brembo calipers. Although, I did recently see a C6 Grand Sport owner at a car show have these covers over his Brembo calipers front & rear 🤦🏻

It’s even worse. My Z4M has sliding calipers but the metal is much better finished and it’s smooth. If you paint it, it’ll look ok. The G8x calipers look so rough and it makes the paint look like a hammered finish.

Well, I guess if the AMG GT Black Series and its sub 7 minute N-Ring lap time has a floating single piston rear caliper, I suppose the G87 is fine too. Although I would have loved to see the 4 piston setup from the F87C.
