Sounds like the M2 can handle the extra hp so unless someone has a good reason to NOT do it, that’s my plan.
I’m assuming that the G80 Base tune is the best option since they have matching hp
I recommend you contact Race chip directly

They are the experts, so if they decide not to add as much power, they must have a good reason.

I contacted racechip by phone and email. Got the same answer. They do not recommend using racechip on the same exact motor with different hp/tq ratings. Once those numbers change they dont recommend it. Angmar has the g80 racechip working fine and got a pretty impressive 60-130 numbers with it. Faster then any g87 racechip car with the same mods. Dahler uses 1 box across the s58 platform. Makes sense why the g80 racechip is working on a g87. You will have to make your own decision on this one. No vendor is going to say its ok. Racechip wont even agree that you can use the 2024 racechip on the 2025 g87 which has also been proven to work.

Exactly! I’m not seeing any clear reason for them to say it won’t work.
If something bad was going to happen to Angmar’s engine, I would assume it would have happened already, especially since he’s pushing out those Dragy numbers.
I agree that RC would never give me the thumbs up for it, but I don’t think they would articulate the reasons for not using it. It’s the same engine with the same power rating. I’ve seen 800hp G87s on YouTube so the car can obviously handle the extra power. Maybe BMW reached out to them and asked them to hold back on the tune so they don’t impact G80 sales? Idk.
I am completely open to listening to anyone who has input on this and can give me a good logical reason to not use it, but again, I see proof that Angmar is using it and getting great results.

The fact that guy is running the g80 box on his g87 without any logs is just pure crazy to me. I suspect he’s running on borrowed time.

If the box company says not to do it. What more do you need to hear?

I suspect at some point something is going to go BOOM.💥

Having owned our G87 for a bit over 12 months with a couple minor additions (Fabspeed downpipes and BMC air filters) I simply don’t understand the requirement of 60, 80, or 100 more horsepower for street use. However, I get the interest if tracking.

YMMV

Hello.
Over the course of a few months, I was able to get the M2 from 480cv to load and see the 16 page view of the 480cv M2 that I had previously finished.
1 - If you have a free downpipe, the central Racechip and other parts of the fall?
2- If you have a 335i E92 and the JB4 combination with MHD, I don't think it's possible for the new model?
Thanks.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but all the S58 engines are built on the same assembly line with the same parts regardless of what platform they’re going into. The software is the only thing that’s different in how much boost they push and thus their power output. So why would you think that the same S58 in a G80 is any stronger than one in a G87?
And if the box company explained why we shouldn’t do it then I’d take that into consideration, but I’m not 5 years old and someone saying not to do something just because “they said so” doesn’t float with me.

Tunes are not just added boost. But by all means, do whatever floats your boat. It’s your car. Who am I to say otherwise.

And again, if you can’t log your motor running a map designed for a different car. Then to me, that’s just crazy.

Maybe it will run fine. But until logs can prove that. I personally wouldnt risk my motor.

RC doesn’t have logs at all for any cars, and for piggyback tunes it really is just adding boost. Flash tunes are obviously way more in depth and change way more things but the tune we’re talking about literally just adds boost.

I think there is more to it than you think.

But as I said. You do whatever floats your boat. That’s a hard pass for me. But To each there own.

I dont see how this is worth the risk.

The experts at RC are saying not to add more boost, whether we have a clear reason or not, does not matter as they obviously do, or else they would have just re-used the G80/G82 boost.

It's easier for them to do so, and it will drive sales if they can advertise more power.

So, if you are getting an RC, going against the wishes of the makers of this tune does not sound like the best idea, and it's definitely not worth the risk, especially when you can't log in to see how the car is handling it.

but at the end of the day, its your car, so do what you please with it

I get what you’re saying, and I agree that it’s counterintuitive to go against the recommendations of the manufacturer, but on one side I have one guy on here who’s been running it with zero issues for a few months now and on the other the manufacturer who’s saying don’t do it but with no explanation. They also don’t have an explanation for the 2024 tune not working on the 2025 even though it does work.
Obviously I don’t want to damage the engine but back to my earlier point, what makes the G80 S58 able to handle more power than the G87 S58? I really just want one good logical reason. And if they have that good reason they should be explaining it so people like me don’t do anything stupid.
I’ve sent them an email like others have and still waiting on the response.

All the tunes have safety measures in mind. Any knock detected it'll retard timing, reduce boost, and throw a check engine light. These piggy backs don't increase much boost anyways.

Yea there is definetely a noticeable difference between the two mappings. I haven’t had any issues and have been driving on map 7 for 1500 miles with mine reflashed to the G80 map. I’ve been driving the car very hard also redlining it frequently every time I drive and haven’t noticed any issues at all. I think they just had it tuned down for driveability. Still planning on doing an ecu unlock and downpipes and ethanol tune in a few months though. Also, I have the LCI engine mapping running which basically is the g80 base automatic engine tune of 473hp and apparently more torque anyway so if it was fine for the g80 I don’t see how it’s now bad for my g87. Haven’t gotten any lean or misfire codes and I’m doing some hard long pulls and just a lot of WOT in general. Or any codes period for that matter at 24000 miles and counting. Obviously if you email RaceChip they aren’t going to endorse you doing it. Also I live in the northeast where I have access to 93 and 94 octane fuel at the pump. I don’t know if I’d try running map 7 on 91 octane though.

Also, I have observed while doing pulls for the car to show misfires in BimmerLink or lean lamda numbers but haven’t seen anything. Car pulls like a freight train all the way to redline. That’s my experience anyway.

Thank you for that detailed response.
My car should be on the dealers lot by the end of January, so I’ll give RC until then to release the 2025 G87 tune, which I assume will be stronger than the 23/24 tune. If not, I’m going with the same setup as Angmar.
I’m right outside of Philly, so I get that Wawa 93 octane 👍🏼

Yes.

I have the RC with G80 tune, intake and downpipes. TBH I wouldn't consider this car close to 700hp at the crank. The JB4 or other tunes would yield higher hp numbers. RC is way too conservative of a tune.

I’ve only ever used RC so I can’t speak to JB4, but it sounds like you’re not happy with the RC. Why not just get the JB4 now?

And to your point about it being conservative, I do agree that they don’t go too crazy with the power and that’s one of the main reasons why I would feel comfortable using the G80 tune for my G87.
That being said, I would like to see what they come out with for the 2025 G87.
Them saying that the 23/24 tune isn’t compatible with the 25 leads me to believe that a more aggressive version will be released, especially since people are using their G80 on the G87 with no issues
